Video Surfaces Showing Inmate Slowly Dying In Macomb County Jail While Under Surveillance
In Macomb County Jail, David Stojcevski, 32, lost 50 pounds, wilting away, twitching, under the glare of prison lights in the two-person cell he shared off and on with other inmates from June 11-June 27, 2014.
Then with the cameras rolling in the cell where he was allegedly on suicide watch, he died alone, visibly breathing his last before medical personnel rushed in from outside the glass and try in vain to resuscitate him.
This is shameful, substantial and unconscionable neglect, said Robert Ihrie, senior partner at the firm handling a lawsuit against Macomb County on behalf of David Stojcevskis family.

(235 posts)To many ppl view anyone in jail as dispensable members of society, guilty or not. The rehabilitation aspect of our prison system is a joke, and people just want to focus on punishment. Unfortunately it's in a looooong list of things we need to fix in the country. Maybe the pope's words toward capital punishment will shed more light toward prison reform.

(20,582 posts)Anyone who knew what meds he was on would have known how much he'd suffer without them ..... possible seizures and even death are very well documented. They ignored other cellmates eating his food, the seizures, left him naked ... his family wants this shown, I can't imagine how horrible it must have been for him, or them.
His brother went through the same thing, arrested then jailed and ended up in hospital??
Horrible.

(493 posts)When are these horrors happening to people going to stop? How many more will die before the people, all the people rise up in revolt, it's time for an American Spring. How many will die before Bernie is elected?

world of shit. Particularly if they have health issues that need close monitoring.

(14,952 posts)Debtor's prison is alive and well. It is administered by the GEO and CCA companies and the payoffs go to the same sleazy characters that lived in Dicken's time - the politicians and grifters.

(50 posts)People don't seem to understand. The police LOVE these horror stories. They want us afraid of them.
When the police pull us over, they get off on the fear they cause us. They want us to fear for our lives even if we are just getting a ticket for jay walking.
Nothing turns on the police more than knowing they can KILL YOU for making an illegal left turn and the worse case scenario is they will get some time off with pay.
Police are bullies and sadists with no accountability and they want the rest of us to know it.
But most of all, they want us afraid so we will obey without hesitation.
The true motto of the police department is, "OBEY OR DIE!"

(9,086 posts)Cops want us to be scared.
It's a little bit confusing how that can go on when we're supposed to live in a civilized society and a democracy with individual rights under the rule of law.
Things like this seem to happen all the time so it makes me question the whole system that allows it.
