Three arrested over terror threat alert in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police confirmed they arrested three people on Thursday (Sep 24) for possible terror links after a warning was issued linked to Kuala Lumpur's popular Jalan Alor food street.

An Indonesian and a Syrian were among those arrested, along with a local. One of the three arrested made frequent trips to Yemen and entered Malaysia only days ago, police said.

The arrests came in the wake of terror alerts issued by the US and Australian embassies urging people to avoid Jalan Alor in the Bukit Bintang shopping belt and the immediate surrounding areas.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said security in Kuala Lumpur is under control and said there was no increased threat level at Jalan Alor or anywhere else in the city.

They said they view the warnings very seriously and will meet the respective embassies as part of an investigation.
