EarthSky
What is a Harvest Moon? In traditional skylore, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, and depending on the year, the Harvest Moon can come anywhere from two weeks before to two weeks after the autumnal equinox. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, the 2015 autumnal equinox comes on September 23, so the September 27-28 full moon counts as the Northern Hemispheres Harvest Moon.
By the way, this years Harvest Moon will present the closest and largest full moon of the year. Itll also stage a total eclipse of the moon on the night of September 27-28.

What makes this moon a supermoon? This years Harvest Moon qualifies as a supermoon because the moon turns full about one hour after reaching lunar perigee the moons closest point to Earth for the month.

Which night is the 2015 Harvest Moon for me? The full Harvest Moon for 2015 falls on September 27 or September 28, depending on your location on the globe. It happens on September 28 at 2:51 Universal Time. In North America, the crest of the moons full phase comes on September 27, at 10:51 p.m. EDT, 9:51 p.m CDT, 8:51 p.m. MDT or 7:51 p.m. PDT.
So the night of September 27 has the brightest, fullest moon for the Americas. ...

(4,325 posts)I don't recall how many years it has been when it hasn't been CLOUDY during any
celestial event. For some reasons, the Blue Ridge area of Roanoke Va. is always
like this when ever some event requires it to be clear.
Seeing pictures of these events is NOT the same as seeing the real thing
or at least I seem to recall that.

(2,388 posts)It is the 4th consecutive Blood Moon total lunar eclipse in the last two years, a rare occurrence called a tetrad.
The first in this tetrad series of lunar eclipses was on April 15th 2014 at 26* Libra/Aries, the second was on October 8th 2014 at 16* Aries/Libra, the third was on April 4th 2015 at 15* Libra/Aries and the fourth and last is this eclipse on September 27th 2015 at 5* Aries/Libra.

(82,849 posts)I've seen more than a couple of posts on Facebook about the end of the world and other nonsense connected with a totally predictable celestial event. It's as annoying as those "There are five Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in July! That hasn't happened in 823 years!" dumbass posts. Get a calendar program, dumbasses. July had five Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays back in 2009, too. It'll have five Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays again in 2020 and 2026.

(50,255 posts)said something to me about the end times coming. This person appeared quite wealthy judging from clothes and car. I had no idea how to respond. Maybe "have a nice trip?" LOL.
This made me laugh.
