Boehner says government will not shut down next week despite fears

The looming spectre of a government shutdown next week at the start of the new fiscal year will be averted, Speaker of the House John Boehner said on Sunday following the announcement of his shock resignation.
Boehner told CBS that before completing his role as the top Republican in the House of Representatives, he would find a solution to the fast-approaching budget crunch that threatens to force a second shutdown of the federal government in as many years.
Asked whether there was still a chance that the shutdown would happen in the wake of his surprise resignation on Friday, he said: No.
Boehners decision to walk away from the speakership was the culmination of an intensifying clash between Republican leaders in Congress and the burgeoning cabal of right-wing conservatives whose ranks have grown since the midterm elections of 2010 and 2014.
