His speech today at the UN was spot on. He's moving to NYC after his term is over. He is well respected in the International Community.
I see him moving into the Secretary General position relatively easy and in my opinion with a lot of success. Perhaps he could bring a new credibility to the UN if he does.

(59,475 posts)Some comments suggested that as a former President of one of the P5, it was not likely. I don't know if this was an actual rule or simply based on the idea that any of the bigger countries have too many vested interests. Consider if you would want a former President of China or Russia in that position.
I have full respect for Obama - and his current excellent Secretary of State - but I suspect that no matter how respected and diplomatic they are, they are first and foremost, Americans.

Presidents Carter and Clinton have already set fine examples by going to work to make the world a better place. And we once assumed the presidency was the pinnacle of a life...

But in the end, I don't want anyone to have to endure that kind of eternal hatred.
