“This is not about some bogus video,” Connolly said. “This is about a conservative philosophy"

Dem accuses GOP of 'misogyny' at hearing on Planned Parenthood

The Virginia Democrat's remarks offered a brief respite from the heated exchanges between Richards and other GOP members of the committee.

Several members, including Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Cynthia Lummis (R-Wy.), spoke over Richards as she tried to respond to questions, preventing her from answering before her time elapsed.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) also sharply criticized Richards for her annual salary of more than $500,000.

Connolly accused of hypocrisy those who question Planned Parenthood’s motives.

“This is not about some bogus video,” Connolly said. “This is about a conservative philosophy that says … we believe in individualism and personal liberty. There’s an asterisk in that assertion … when it comes to women and controlling their own bodies and making their own health decisions.

OTOH, seems to me a lot of Congresscritters are way overpaid for what they do.

I know they're more than just a foundation, but how would you feel if a charitable organization that only had $200 million of intake cash per year was paying a half million to the director? I know it would seem too high to me.

Also, i'm not convinced that there are that many CEO's of $200 million dollar revenue companies that make that kind of money. At this firm, the salary of the CEO was, adjusted for inflation, only around $350k (publicly traded companies need to disclose) when the company was the same size. It's a lot more now, but the company is a lot bigger.

Why is it that when an assertive woman has an influential position and is making a rather modest income compared to her male counterparts, her salary seems "over the top"?

Compared to men who head other multinational corporations, she's grossly underpaid. Forbes magazine reported that the average total compensation for a CEO in 2012 was $10.5 million, and Economic Policy Institute's latest report lists the average CEO compensation at $15.2 million for 2013, and John Seffrin, CEO of the American Cancer Society, made $2.1 million.

And as Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, told Chaffetz, the CEO of Citigroup made $13 million last year, and JP Morgan's CEO made about $20 million... after both pleaded guilty to manipulating markets and interest rates.

I would consider the possibility that if you could find an American corporation of a similar size, the crony capitalist that would be a male President of such a company would probably "earn" perhaps ten million a year for a corporate job with equivalent pressures and responsibilities.

I would say she's under compensated given the comparison.

While i share your sentiment about overpaid executives, it does not actually apply to companies that aren't multi-billions or multi tens of billions. That's because if a person running a $200 million dollar company makes $400k, a person running a $20 billion dollar company thinks they should make 100x that. So we get CEO's making $40 million.

I think you'll find the number of CEO's getting paid tens of millions to run a $200 million revenue firm is extremely low, if not non-existent.
