1. So much for any caring about the pope

He just lost all my respect for interfering in our government and costing us more tax money to lock up the bigots like Davis who abrogated their elected duties.

Glad to be an atheist.

3. This is not the first bigot he's met with. In fact, he meets with much more powerful ones regularly.

8. Article snip:

On Wednesday, the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, confirmed the meeting, but he declined to elaborate. “I do not deny that the meeting took place, but I have no other comments to add,” he said.

The author of the article wrote that Lombardi confirmed the meeting. Lombardi said only, "I do not deny that the meeting took place..."

I take it that the Vatican, probably including the pope, are on Davis's side in the matter and don't want to expose her as a liar (or themselves as liars) so they won't say one way or the other whether she met with the pope.

her specifically and did not include her not taking the consequences (going to jail or quitting her job since she can't do it due to her conscience).

18. Well, so the gullible are not misled by the manipulatve, let's just read the quoote:

The pontiff was asked: "Do you … support those individuals, including government officials, who say they cannot in good conscience, their own personal conscience, abide by some laws or discharge their duties as government officials, for example when issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples?"

He did not refer specifically to Davis in his reply, saying: "I can't have in mind all the cases that can exist about conscientious objection … but yes, I can say that conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right. It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right."

9. I am very disappointed in the Pope

During his visit I was inspired and hopeful, now I feel let down. He doesn't seem to know this country is built on separation of church from state.

Regardless of what was actually said, she will no doubt allege a conversation took place which validates her place in the pantheon of self-appointed saints.

He made a very vague, generic non-statement concerning "conscientious objection" without addressing Davis' actual act of prohibiting others in her office from issuing marriage licenses (which is the only real issue of substance in the entire Davis debacle.)

As I mentioned elsewhere, getting the Pope to meet with you doesn't necessarily mean he's going to endorse everything and anything you do. It just means the Pope's going to meet with you.

Non-issue supreme.
