So the most surprising thing about Peeple basically Yelp, but for humans may be the fact that no one has yet had the gall to launch something like it.
When the app does launch, probably in late November, you will be able to assign reviews and one- to five-star ratings to everyone you know: your exes, your co-workers, the old guy who lives next door. You cant opt out once someone puts your name in the Peeple system, its there unless you violate the sites terms of service. And you cant delete bad or biased reviews that would defeat the whole purpose.
Imagine every interaction youve ever had suddenly open to the scrutiny of the Internet public.

(1,858 posts)To review someone, you must be 21 and have an established Facebook account, and you must make reviews under your real name....
Positive ratings post immediately; negative ratings are queued in a private inbox for 48 hours in case of disputes. If you havent registered for the site, and thus cant contest those negative ratings, your profile only shows positive reviews.
So it doesn't appear to be as bad at it could be. But I still see the potential for abuse.

(3,447 posts)Some good money will be made sockpuppetting 'bad' people's names. Don't get so worried, you'll be able to buy "Reputation Defenders" also, I'm sure.
The cost of using nothing but shaming and mockery is about to come home to roost.
EDIT TO ADD: It occurs to me that someone might somehow read this and think I am in favor of it. I am unequivocally against such a thing, and I hate the idea behind it. It simply doesn't surprise me. Rather, the tone of my post was meant to be sadness and a tinge of disgust. I apologize to anyone who may have read before my addition.
