Wisconsin GOPPER Submits Bill Banning Stem Cell Research. WCPT Chicago.

Just a brief mention on progressive talk radio that a GOP legislator in Wisconsin introduced a bill that would ban stem cell research in Wisconsin. If passed the legislation would cost the University of Wisconsin up to $100 million in research money over time. And medical research for diseases like Alzheimers, Diabetes, Parkinsons and other disease would be seriously damaged.

Remember the GOP still want to end all medical research that involves stem cells. They are just as vicious about stem cell research as they are about PP and contraceptives.

Meanwhile as the GOP stunts medical research on serious diseases the rest of the world moves on.

To be clear, and from what I understand, it's not a ban on stem cell research. WillowTree Oct 2015 #12

Their first bill to be passed at midnight in 2017, will be to ban research.

UPDATED Thursday, September 24, 2015---1:48 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he's optimistic the chamber will vote on a bill outlawing research on tissue taken from aborted fetuses.

The GOP-authored measure would ban research on tissues, organs and cells from fetuses killed in elective abortions after Jan. 1, 2015, and ban the commercial sale of fetal tissue. Republicans in both the Assembly and Senate, however, have expressed concerns that the bill could chill research efforts.

Vos, a Rochester Republican, said earlier this week he doesn't have the votes to move the bill out of the Assembly. On Thursday he said members of his caucus have been trying to craft a compromise and he hopes to bring the bill to the floor by Oct. 22. He declined to comment on what changes might be coming.

It's a ban on fetal tissue research. The difference is fairly small, but we should be discussing what it actually is.
