has finally jumped the shark on the issue of gun violence.
Brava Obama. I know he will never revert to being mealy mouthed about it.
He has had it!

(54,770 posts)will be here to claim Democrats should not do anything because it will cost us votes. Time to tell them to stuff their gun lust.

(14,449 posts)60 senators even for a short time. The president doesn't even apologize for not even trying to get gun control passed during the best and easiest time to get it done. I am furious about that. But now the president with one year left with zero possible way to get something passed is mad?

(27,711 posts)He was a little busy pulling the car out of the ditch: recovering from a recession, dialing down our wars and reforming the healthcare system. We barely controlled the House and the Senate, gun control is extremely divisive.
The Republicans will fight on guns tooth and nail always and forever because they are in love with the gun industry.

(42,294 posts)People really need to do their research before they attack.

(16,646 posts)At that time hew was dialing up the Afghan war by tripling the number of troops.
And it was a few years before we saw much of a recovery. He did save the bankers bonuses though.
Oh, and he didn't do much on health care. But he did nationalize health insurance regulation. And introduce the mandate.
But I actually think one would find that the democrats at the time had little stomach for gun legislation. Just like now they have little interest in revisiting health care reform any time soon.

(3,544 posts)And I think his balls might be big enough to take on the NRA. It's time to amend the amendment.
If he pulls this off, it will go down in history, along with all of his other accomplishments.

(16,254 posts)They will be going to college and these shootings are happening nearly every day at one grade level or another. I have several teachers in my immediate family and I worry about them each and every day. It's a trapped feeling for all.
The Republicans should be ashamed of themselves. They are pulling that trigger right along with the gunman.

(65,273 posts)OPPOSITE of that?
Also, "Brava!" is what you say to a female performer, not a man (for whom "Bravo!" is the appropriate choice). I emailed the poster, but no response.

(22,380 posts)and thanks for the lessons. I live and learn, and I don't like to make mistakes. Usually I don't make the same ones twice

(22,380 posts)I have since been told by pm that it was a poor description of what I (hopefully obviously) meant.
When I get very worked up the fact that English is my second language can rear its head, just like it did in this case.
Apologies.

(135,425 posts)I think "boiled over" might be an expression that is closer to the mark.
He was rightous after the school shooting, infuriated after the church shooting, and now he has boiled over. He's not having it.
Neither should anyone who calls themself a Democrat.
We need gun control. SERIOUS gun control. Anyone who can't hang with that needs to corrrect their POV.

(22,380 posts)an edit would be another way to water down the message with side issues that make me look like the foreigner I once was, and diminish the value of my saying that I was wide eyed and happy and hopeful about the vehemence of my President's address.
I think that part was clear.
So I'll just let it lie it where it was flung, and not make the mistakes again.

(135,425 posts)a handle on this gun bullshit. Enough is enough.
It's so freaky that the TV show Blackish had an episode on the issue of guns just last night--talk about seeing the future....

SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)Their job is NOT to worry about their seat. It should be to support the American wants and needs of the people. So where has this gone so wrong? Money! Lots of Money!!! CPACS!!!! They are all bought and paid for.
I can't wait til Bernie gets in there.
flamingdem
(39,312 posts)He was a little soft on this subject, in Vermont the attitude is pretty pro gun.
But he says there is a consensus among gun owners that could make things work -- however this is one thing a Bernie presidency will not prioritize, I think.
And I'm an ex Vermonter who knows and would be a Bernie supporter if he can win, but on guns I'm not thrilled with his history overall.

(40,416 posts)First, "jumping the shark" is a cultural reference to failure. Jumping the shark. And yes, it involves Henry Winkler as the Fonz.
Second, "Brava" is the Italian associated with a female performance. The male word is "Bravo".
Sorry, just a friendly correction.
Mira
(22,380 posts)I hope you were also pleased with the President's vigorous wading into the issue with new force and emotion with a barely restrained temper.
I'm glad he made clear grave objections and abject sadness at mass shootings are actually a political issue in the fabric of this country, and ought to be front and center all the time. Not just trotted out on sad days like today and then shelved til the next time.
That is what makes me hopeful - pulled it out for all to see his anger and frustration, and he told us it has become a priority to find help with solutions.
Sorry about my mistakes with the language. I was excited and chose a description that did not fit.
I must say though, that I am an avid theater attendee, and many many times have I stood and clapped to the audience yelling Brava to the orchestra, or to only male performers, such as soloists.

(40,416 posts)They always get me, too. Usually right in the middle of a DU post. Either that or a fucking phone call. Either one utterly screws up my narrative.
My best to you, my good friend.
My NC grandson moved into Brooklyn today, he just graduated from Arts school, and we are all jittery.

(22,380 posts)I have a strong feeling that he has lost all patience, all reserve, and that in his plodding and single tracked way he has an issue he has now pulled into the front of his last year.
GOBAMA.
I have not been alone in calling him Obama-don't-care (any more)
I believe finding a way to do the public's will about mass murders and gun violence rather than that of the NRA has taken a foothold in the front pew today.
