Florida-Man running for office: "I sacrificed an animal ... yes, I drank the goat's blood."

http://www.salon.com/2015/10/05/yes_i_drank_the_goats_blood_libertarian_senate_candidate_also_promises_a_second_civil_war_if_elected/

The chairman of the Libertarian Party of Florida has resigned in protest of the senate candidacy of Augustus Sol Invictus, who he claims is trying to fold Neo-Nazis into the party and sadistically dismembered a goat, then drank its blood.

“He is the absolute exact opposite of a Libertarian. He’s a self-proclaimed fascist. He’s promoting a second civil war,” former chairman Adrian Wylie told the Associated Press. “It’s absolute insanity. We must explain to people this is the opposite of Libertarians. This guy has no place in the Libertarian Party.”

Invictus — who changed his name to a Latin phrase meaning “majestic unconquered sun” and refuses to reveal his given name — said that Wylie is merely running a smear campaign. He noted that it wouldn’t be in his best interests to support white supremacy, given that his four children are Hispanic. Although he did admit to killing the goat and drinking its blood.

“I did sacrifice a goat. I know that’s probably a quibble in the mind of most Americans,” he said in a telephone interview. “I sacrificed an animal to the god of the wilderness — yes, I drank the goat’s blood.”

The relevant questions relate to his fitness for the job, not his religion.

Do I think people who engage in symbolic eating the flesh of Jesus are fit for office?

Do I think people who make food offerings to idols (encompassing a number of faiths) are fit for office?

How far do you want to go with that?

Jews and Muslims have specific animal slaughter requirements dictated by their religions. Christians engage in symbolic cannibalism (actual cannibalism if they subscribe to transsubtantiation). You'll see incense and food offered to statues in any number of Chinese and Indian restaurants.

Not being a goat myself, then I'd want to know what the guy's plans are for his office.

What he does in his bedroom, church, temple or whatnot, doesn't affect me.

Or is it some kind of "nobody who believes in ridiculous religious ideas should hold office" kind of thing? I'd like to see the list of "religious ideas that are silly" before making that kind of judgment.

assuming he ate the goat, butchering an animal to eat involves "brutal dismemberment" or however it was characterized.

And if he ate the goat after sacrificing it, and assuming he sacrificed it by cutting its throat, well I have a lot fewer objections to the sacrifice. My objection to animal sacrifice is that the animal isn't a part of whatever religion and isn't always killed quickly. Killing to eat is much less troublesome somehow. Probably because it's not wasteful.

Kinda weird how people in this culture react to animal slaughter rituals.

The Christian god used to love 'em being killed and burned.

I imagine the Hebrew temple used to smell like one really great barbecue.

Do you believe that any god which demands animal sacrifices is "barbaric"?

A simple yes or no will do.

21. But there's power in the blood

I like how in this version, the children mimic the blood flow of a man being crucified...

Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you o’er evil a victory win?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Refrain:
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the precious blood of the Lamb.

Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

But if you like the classic style....

And nothing but the blood...

Aww... heck, let's get the whole bloodthirsty Gaither clan together on this one:

O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

Edited to add: Hint: he's not as "opposite" as they'd like to think.

He's also keen on fascist symbolism, recently recanted his view that state-enforced eugenics was a great idea, and has talked about going to the wilderness to return with a vengeful army behind him.

And there's the cool name.
