Source: ABC News Australia
U.S. counter-terror officials have asked Toyota, the worlds second largest auto maker, to help them determine how ISIS has managed to acquire the large number of Toyota pick-up trucks and SUVs seen prominently in the terror groups propaganda videos in Iraq, Syria and Libya, ABC News has learned.
Toyota says it does not know how ISIS obtained the vehicles and is supporting the inquiry led by the Terror Financing unit of the Treasury Department -- part of a broad U.S. effort to prevent Western-made goods from ending up in the hands of the terror group.
We briefed Treasury on Toyotas supply chains in the Middle East and the procedures that Toyota has in place to protect supply chain integrity, said Ed Lewis, Toyotas Washington-based director of public policy and communications.
Toyota has a strict policy to not sell vehicles to potential purchasers who may use or modify them for paramilitary or terrorist activities, Lewis said. He said it is impossible for the company to track vehicles that have been stolen, or have been bought and re-sold by middlemen.

CENTCOM spokesman Air Force Col. Patrick Ryder says the idea would be a game changer.
The plan has its roots in Army Capt. Noel Abeloves PowerPoint briefing, which was hailed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, sources said. Abelove, a supply officer on the Joint Logistics Staff (J-4), realized that cutting out the Iraqi Army middlemen had numerous advantages.
They taught me at West Point that amateurs talk strategy but professionals talk logistics, Abelove told reporters. The most important advantage is, we only supply about 40 percent of each ISIS requisition.

(10,362 posts)Is this article serious? There must be millions of Toyota trucks in driveways and on cars lots. Nothing can stop a terrorist from walking up to an owner and buying a truck. It's not like there are credit check agencies for terror activities
How about investigating how Isis got so many of the weapons we gave to "moderate Islamists"? Oh yeah, that article will never be written by the US corporate media.

(65,616 posts)What about the BILLIONS of dollars worth of military hardware we left behind! We didn't even take the time to blow that shit up before we left.
Heaven forbid we bring any of it back...no no...that would hurt the military contractors bottom line.
I am so sick of the US corporate media.

interesting note....well maybe not...talking to a used car dealer couple months back. He advertised a fair amount on the internet.
He loved it when he got in toyota trucks cause the fly off the lots very quickly. he could make a good buck on them.
not just local buyers but sometimes from a couple hundred miles away. Pretty much buy them sight unseen.
Conversation came up because i happened to be there when a newly acquired toyota truck came in...The truck was moved to the head of the line cause the owner knew he could turn it that quickly and i would be fast money in his register.
It did not sound like it was one guy buying them.
