Lake Murray Dam's Floodgates Opened During South Carolina Flooding for the 1st Time Since 1969

Murray Dam's Floodgates Opened During Historic South Carolina Flooding for the First Time Since 1969

In the past week, severe rainfall has rewritten the record books across South Carolina, and west of Columbia, officials had to do something they hadn't done since 1969.

They opened the floodgates of Saluda Dam, also known as the Lake Murray Dam, an earthen dam built in 1930 to hold back millions of gallons of water that would create Lake Murray.

There is an album of over 600 photos of the flooding in SC in this article.

There are many rumors about the Lake Murray damn. Lawd! It bet not break.
It is not nearly over. The rivers are rising as the water flows toward the coast. My cousins are worried now about where they live. Evacuations are ongoing.

OT but I was reading AJC and there was an ad: 60 more days of summer...visit Myrtle Beach. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
