Introducing a new four-legged member to the family isnt always easy. Just like human siblings, pet siblings might not always get along and tend to compete for attention from their parents. Having grown up with younger siblings, we can totally relate to the mixed feelings of happiness and annoyance when a new little one comes into the picture. Sure, we eventually learned to love our younger siblings but lets just say it was an uphill climb.
Sometimes, however, the transition from only pet-child to sibling is not only effortless, its borderline magical. Just take this dog and his new foster kitten sibling for example.
Imgur user HellaOld explains that they took in a kitten to foster and their dog immediately became obsessed with his new friend.

(18,973 posts)I have a similar one. A friend passed away and I used to dog sit Dugan for him. Dugan was a brindled colored Pit Bull mix who was just the goofiest dog ever. So when my friend passed I took Dugan because I knew I could find a home for him. Sure enough, my friends Eric and Carol took him. At the time they had a huge fenced in yard that was backed up to a wooded area, Dugan just loved roaming the yard looking for mischief. As Eric was gardening one day, he noticed Dugan come by with something furry in his mouth, "uh oh" he thought, but when he called Dugan over, Dugan had a little kitten in his mouth that was just meowing away.
Eric took the kitten from Dugan and thought to himself, hmm, where there's one kitten there are surely others. Well, Dugan led him around the yard and found a total of 7 kittens, but they could not find a mother, they were likely abandoned. So they took them in, and Dugan just loved those kittens, he doted on them endlessly, licking and cleaning them and letting them crawl all over him. Each morning Dugan would wait anxiously for Eric to open the door to the room where the kittens were living so he could spend the day caring for them. They were his babies. After they were old enough, they found homes for all the kittens, but one, Dugan's favorite, Esmerelda. Years later those two are best friends, sleeping together on the same dog bed every night. Esmerelda will often steal Dugan's spot on a pillow next to the window and Dugan will patiently lay down right in front of her begging to be allowed back in his spot.
AS for Dugan and the time he met the Beaver in the wild...that's another story, he just wanted to say hello and got a smack in the nose with a beaver tail for his effort. That one is actually on film.

(56,177 posts)I think this story will end similarly...the dog is too attached to this kitten to be separated.

(9,426 posts)Too bad humans can not take a lesson from the book of animals, and learn how to get along. The dog and kitten in the first story are adorable. It will be hard to seperate them. Johnny 2x2x thank you for being a caring friend and finding a good home for Dugan. Hr sounds like a sweet puppy, too.

(3,908 posts)I'm not a dog person, so I could be way off. But border collies naturally herd things. In homes with kids, they herd the kids around. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here, as well.
Doesn't reduce the squeee factor, of course.

(146,262 posts)our new kitten instantly. He still loves her, even though she's growing up. Many dogs love baby kitties. They're pretty adorable, really, even to dogs.

(2,899 posts)She would follow our duck and ducklings around all day. You always knew where there were baby (wild) quail in the long grass because she would stand still staring down at them while they 'hid' from her. She loved kittens and stayed with them. The funniest thing was when the frogs eggs I put in a trough turned into tadpoles and then tiny frogs. She hung her head over the side and stood transfixed for hours.
