WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)Citizens of the Roman town of Pompeii who were victims of Mt. Vesuviuss eruption in 79 A.D. could have survived if they had just outrun the lava, the neurosurgeon Ben Carson told Fox News on Wednesday.
Most of the plaster casts we have of Pompeii victims show them basically just lying down and whatnot, he said. If I had been in Pompeii and I heard Mt. Vesuvius erupting, you can bet I would have made a run for it.
He said another option open to residents of Pompeii would have been to fight the volcano.
Archeologists estimate that the population of Pompeii was about eleven thousand, he said. You cant tell me that if eleven thousand people put their minds to it they couldnt beat one volcano.
Carson said he would spend the next week on the campaign trail dispensing helpful tips about how people can defeat earthquakes, tsunamis, and giant asteroids.

(3,447 posts)The moment the lava hits water, it turns into new land and they just would have had to waited until all the water made them a new beach and presto, instant condo rights up for sale! Gosh, don't you silly liberals even know how this game works? Just because they were too lazy to tread water for a few minutes while nice Vesuvius made them a new beach isn't any reason for us to not point out that they could have survived if only they hadn't been waiting for the government to give them free stuff instead of the volcano!
((If I need to put on the sarcasm tag, you should seek professional help ))

(24,329 posts)They could have sold their new land, made a profit and lived like Kings
or bought up land near another volcano and waited

(113,276 posts)belief in evolution is a satanic trick, one would not be surprised to hear him say this. (anymore, one has to check the links before reading. cannot tell satire from actual reporting anymore.)
i always put the Borowitz name in the headline when I post his satirical commentary.

(57,349 posts)Because considering what I know about Carson if he had said this I wouldn't be a bit surprised.
That goes for Trump too.

(22,380 posts)that this was sufficiently "witzig" ("laughable and humorous" to undo his ill fated attempt to want the job of President.
His abysmally stupid statements, so obviously geared to be cow-towing to the far right, have hurt him hopefully to the core.

(18,628 posts)Every election cycle the GOP puts forth a minority candidate that rises quickly to the top and appears credible. The RNC knows because of inherent racism among party voters there's zero chance that he can ever be the ultimate candidate and quietly aid in his swift fall from grace. Carson inserted his foot in his mouth and will get no support from the party.
In the GOP, if they don't get to the back of the bus, they throw them under it.

(915 posts)this so called soft spoken candidate is actually more disgusting than the other republican candidates. He's near the bottom of the list.
I guess you don't have to be smart to be a brain surgeon.

(22,380 posts)Stephen King once was at a cocktail party (hard to imagine but this is a supposedly real incident) when a man approached him and gushed over how wonderful his books are, and how much he himself had considered taking time out to write a horror novel. Stephen King asked him what he did for a living and the man told him he was a brain surgeon. Oh, yes, said Mr. King, I know how you feel. I have often considered taking time out for a little brain surgery.

(1,958 posts)but it makes Borowitz look ignorant because the victims were buried in volcanic ash, not lava.
Mira
(22,380 posts)it's no longer funny

(8,955 posts)It's Carson who displays the ignorance in this brilliant piece.

(1,958 posts)Are you saying Carson actually beought up the lava thing?
WheelWalker
(8,955 posts)whether it is Borowitz's ignorance or his brilliance. I guess either is possible. But the idea is to make Carson appear absurd, so I would think Borowitz, if he could, would Carson as ludicrous as possible and would want to give him correct facts to state if he could avoid it. Are you following me here?
