Just got word that my cousin who has fought her battle with cancer with humility and courage, is being sent to Hospice care. She is in her mid 40's and has on daughter who is college on the east coast and a son in high school. It is not easy to accept what is going to happen, but by the grace of God, there will be a cure for this horrific decease soon. If you have a minute to huge a family member? Please do so. Also, say a prayer for my cousin and her family. Thank you.

(13,869 posts)on edit: Sorry if that seems flippant, but I have had too much experience, having over the years lost grandparents, a parent, and also recently losing a good friend, and my dog (who just turned 7) is currently battling lymphoma, having been diagnosed in August.
When Dr. Oliver Sacks was diagnosed, he wrote an interesting article for the NYT http://www.democraticunderground.com/11462029

(40,656 posts)have only love for you and your family, imanamerican63 and everyone on this list who has been harmed by this. Your cousin is a brave person and I think in some strange way they are trailblazers for the rest of us about courage, grace and unconditional love. My pa had 3 kinds of cancer. he beat them all but the last one. You are held in love by everyone here because all of us have had a touch of this blight too. Your cousin is going home to a good place and will be around all of you for the rest of your life. If you listen hard enough, you will know. Take care and know all of you are in my prayers.

(10,044 posts)That some drug is working and she is getting better, but that does not seem likely from your post.
I wish you all strength above all, to get through this. This time will pass, and maybe in the near future, you can all have a day free from pain...

(24,560 posts)you, and all her family in my prayers. It is horrid to lose someone so young, and with children who still need her love and care. It will be hard for all of you, so I will pray for strength to carry through this time, and that you will someday find peace.

(8,175 posts)I have a family member in hospice too, so I understand your feelings. I hope you have loved ones to share this with. It is never easy. I sure am glad that hospice is available though...so much nicer for them to end their lives at home instead of stuck in a hospital or nursing home.

(16,176 posts)Reach out to the kids with food or something in their sad days ahead. I think it makes a huge difference to them to not feel like they are drowning at sea alone. The kindness some relatives showed me, who i barely even knew, is something I remember 30 years later.
My "cousin" Ruth made us two huge trays of lasagna, one of which was vegetarian especially for me.

(6,926 posts)I watched people fight at the same time and lose their battles. My husband now has a sarcoma in his leg which has not spread and can be removed without too much damage.
There have been days when I thought the damn stuff is contagious.
Today is my 66th birthday, the first thing I saw in the newspaper this morning was the notice of a settlement for the family of a coworker who died in 2009 of mesothelioma. The suit was against her father-in-law's employer and the amount was not disclosed. I would be happy for them if her husband was a nice person and did not alienate his teenage daughter's after their mother's death at 46. I worry that the girls will not see anything and that he and the woman he married almost immediately will have a good time because of her death. And no, I did not like him before she got sick.
Cancer is everywhere.....
Your post tells me your cousin's children will have family support, I will be thinking of all of you.
