I'm SO disappointed. NO mention on Morning Joe about the McCarthy sex scandal...

nothing about Renee Ellmer at all or any mention of hanky panky.

Nobody on the panel of speakers today mentioned it either. Not even the more liberal commentators...

lawmakers. Reporters have known about McCarthy and Ellmers for 5 years, just like they knew about Gingrich and others.

I prefer that reason, the "affair" reason is an excuse to deflect from the truth.

Why would there be a resignation over two adults consenting to whatever!?

one mistake too many, especially since the Freedom Caucus opposed him as too "moderate." Which he emphatically is not to any view but theirs.

The NY Times Editorial Board suggestion of another reason for the growing list: "One possible reason Mr. McCarthy withdrew is that the Freedom Caucus demanded rule changes that would enhance the power of the fringes. The next speaker should refuse to hand the Freedom Caucus this or any other ransom, and the majority of Republicans should back him or her up. The House doesn’t need a “caretaker” speaker to paper over the toxic divide in the GOP caucus. It needs a leader who will neutralize the destructive influence of the Republican Party’s Jacobins."

It's a rumour, not news. And even if it's true, no one can really confirm that McCarthy's resignation was about the scandal of his affair rather than the lack of votes. This speculation has no place in public discourse.
