http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/08/world/americas/calling-protesters-in-chile-dumb-pope-francis-sets-off-uproar.htmlSANTIAGO, Chile Many watched in disbelief: There he was, Pope Francis, calling people in Osorno, a city in southern Chile, dumb for protesting against a bishop accused of being complicit in clerical sexual abuse.
The Osorno community is suffering because its dumb, Pope Francis told a group of tourists on St. Peters Square in Vatican City, because it has let its head be filled with what politicians say, judging a bishop without any proof.
Dont be led by the nose by the leftists who orchestrated all of this, the pope said.
The video, filmed by an Argentine tourist in May, was obtained by a Chilean television station and broadcast Friday, quickly instilling doubts here about the popes commitment to protecting victims of sexual abuse.
Under a heavy rain, demonstrators with black balloons chanted again outside the San Mateo Cathedral in Osorno on Sunday as the bishop at the center of the controversy, Juan Barros, said Mass.
Bishop Barros was appointed by the pope to head the Diocese of Osorno this year, despite reports that he had covered up sexual abuses committed by the Rev. Fernando Karadima, a prominent priest in Santiago, the capital.
Bishop Barros spent over 30 years alongside Father Karadima, who was found guilty of sexual abuses by the Vatican in 2011 and ordered to a life of seclusion, prayer and penitence. According to some of Father Karadimas victims, Bishop Barros was witness to and complicit in the abuses.

Let me repeat that: "found guilty of sexual abuses by the Vatican in 2011 and ordered to a life of seclusion, prayer and penitence."
Not jail. Seclusion, prayer and penitence.
And to call those protesting this "dumb"?
Fuckers.

Here I am. I like the Pope, but in no way can I defend this statement.

Is there a complete translation available somewhere?
I can pick out bits and pieces of what is quoted, but don't quite follow the rest.

They really should come to defend him and explain why those people are dumb and being bossed around by leftists! Their usual arguments are that Francis IS a leftist who speaks for the people so his bigotry and anti contraception dogmas are minor distractions.

And yes, I still like the guy, but not quite as much as I did before reading this. I will not try to defend what he said here, because he's wrong.
