Trigger-happy cop tries to shoot pet in self-defense, hits 4yo girl (she didn't die).

http://www.alternet.org/civil-liberties/mommy-am-i-going-die-mom-calls-9-1-1-paramedics-cop-shows-shoots-4-year-old-daughter

Somebody got a glass-cut. They waved a nearby cop to come closer and shouted at him to call an ambulance. When he approached the home, the family pet, a dog, charged at the cop. He tried to shoot it in self-defense but hit the 4yo daughter instead. The shot hit her leg, splintering the bone.

This happened in June. 4 months ago. And the PD assures the public that the incident is under investigation.

4 months of investigation...

---------------------------

If a dog comes charging at you:

1. Look calm and face it frontal. No hectic movements, no shouting. Try to look harmless. (Don't run away: The dog is faster than you anyways.)

2. Wait until the dog is about 5 feet away from you, then lunge at it and shout "NO!" as loud and as frightening as you can at the dog. (You can support this by making a loud stomp with your foot, as if you are about to charge yourself.) You have to shock, frighten and irritate the dog. This will buy you about 5 seconds, in which the dog-owner ideally will take care of the situation.

3. Don't shout too early, or it won't shock the dog enough to abort its attack.

And the right to open carry.

They need a chance to defend themselves as well.
