Oregon to Mississippi: Change the state flag

... The flag's "symbol of racist intolerance" is in "direct conflict with Oregon values of fairness and equality," Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland, told The Oregonian.

The Magnolia State flag is part of a decade-old Walk of Flags on the west side of the Oregon Capitol.

Oregon officials could vote immediately on the removal of the flag but say they will wait to see if Mississippi's Legislature moves to adopt a new flag that "honors the dignity of all people" ...

"The flag has to come down, one way or the other," Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, told The Oregonian. "But it's important to try to help another state deal with the issue in a constructive way" ...
