Kennett High takes tough stand on flying Confederate flag (NH)

CONWAY — The Confederate flag will no longer be allowed to be flown by students at Kennett High School, nor can any Eagle wear hats or clothing depicting the image of the flag at school.

The decision, announced Wednesday by Principal Neal Moylan, is not sitting well with a group of about 40 students who rallied Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of a nearby supermarket ...

Neal spent a considerable amount of time asking and requesting of the students to please not display the Confederate flag," Hounsell said by phone Wednesday. "Because of Facebook and other media things, it has turned the flag into a divisive bullying thing; that's not what we're about here.

"Students cannot display the Confederate flag in a bullying manner, and no student should be afraid to come to school," he added. "The polite thing is not to display it" ...

However, as repugnant as the flag is, off school property, he has no say over students who may fly this symbol of racism.
