Have you ever Tweeted a politically subversive message, attended a protest, or signed an oppositional petition? If so, you may have a dedicated file on you kept by the FBI and/or the NSA.
With a simple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, any U.S. citizen can obtain one's NSA or FBI file, if such a file exists.
It simply takes a few minutes to fill out the requisite forms and mail them to the appropriate address. An independent site www.getmyfbifile will, free of charge, generate the necessary forms for you already filled out.
Of course, you can also do this directly through the NSA or FBI if you are worried about providing personal information to an independent site.
While an appropriate level of cynicism may be warranted concerning the level of transparency one should expect from such a request should your file be substantial it is the law that your complet

(15,676 posts)In late '73 to '75 I worked on an NSA-controlled Air Force base. Perhaps you've heard of Echelon?
The FBI did a background check on me while I was training in Texas- they went to my little village and asked virtually every adult there if I were a commie sympathizer bastard before they would give me my clearance.
And in the years since I've been vocal at times- search the DU2 archives for the best of my old rants. I have no doubt anyone who posted here during the *bush years has a red flag or two attached to their names in one or more official files.

(41,694 posts)than what I had signed up for. They always wore civilian clothes and twice they took me for lunch at the Officer's Club. My mistake was acing every damn idiot test given.
Didn't take long for me to figure out they were spooks of some sort.
