I'm watching "Good Night and Good Luck", the Ed Murrow docudrama about the McCarthy era.
Cruz and McCarthy even look alike.
They both speak in the same way.
They both make up 'enemies'.
McCarthy's was commies.
They were all over the place, according to him.
In the highest levels of government and the military, and maybe even under your bed.
The addition of "under God" in the pledge of allegiance (I almost wrote 'religion') was because of the 'godless commie' scare caused for the most part by 'the junior senator from Wisconsin'.
Cruz is also 'the junior senator' from Texas.
His made up enemy is the anti-Christ and anti-Christians and immigrants.
Maybe you didn't get the word, but according to Cruz there's a war on Christianity.

I was 13 then, but TV was new to us and we watched everything.

not that many people around here watch him, but I confess to the sin
wax figure from Tussaud's. Especially his disgusting face. There's a melted-wax/partially deflated Michelin Man thing going on there and it is exceedingly creepy. Not sure just that kind of a homunculus or golem he is, but he's not all human.
