Item 18 doesn't sound like much but changed a life forever

This LBN story that happened in Indiana got me thinking: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10141238291

My dad was 1/2 Cherokee. Until he was drafted into the US Army before WWII his entire family was treated as scum in Southern Indiana. When he left the Army as a decorated soldier, line 18 changed his life. The flip side for many minorities, things didn't change for them after they were discharged.

I wish it was that simple for ALL minorities to be considered equals across the US. An upfront apology to anyone I may have offended.

I can see where something like that would have made a huge difference to someone. ladyVet Oct 2015 #1

I'm not offended, but then I've always lived in the white world, though I apparently have a good portion of NA blood, according to both sides of my family.
