(Former IN GOP Rep) Dan Burton lobbying for Scientology group

Oh goody ....

http://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/behind-closed-doors/2015/10/20/dan-burton-lobbying-scientology/74238134/

"A group co-founded by the church of Scientology has sought former Rep Dan Burton's help in lobbying congress about certain psychiatric treatments.

...

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights calls itself a "mental health watchdog" dedicated to "providing information that the multibillion dollar psycho/pharmaceutical industry does not want people to see or know." Burton (also) tried to show, contrary to the findings of medical experts, that a vaccine preservative caused children to develop autism.

...

When the Church of Scientology opened a National Affairs office in Washington RC in 2012, Burton was among the lawmakers at the opening ceremony, according to the organizer's website.

particularly unappealing a book really needs to be engaging to overcome the repulsion. Scientology is more depressing for me. Like the book about Roger Ailes I also still haven't quite finished because distaste for him overwhelms interest.

... out there, that I gave up.

The only thing I remember was a broad brush statement to the effect that people have health issues as a result of their mother trying to home-abort them.

Like, WTF? That was too much for me.

But just reading about the history of his organization and people who buy into that stuff, without sharing the fanaticism, is dispiriting. Like taking up residence in a mental sick room.

We almost bought a property in Clearwater, a really nice coastal town. I knew Scientology had its headquarters there, but when I realized they have real influence and presence there I told my husband I wanted to pass. I lived very happily in Hollywood and West Hollywood. Diversity is lovely, manipulation by a pack of weirdo, even dangerous, racketeer cultists is not.
