Is it time to concede that Trump is likely to win the GOP nomination?

What's more, his lead has actually been much more stable this year than Mitt Romney's was in the latter half of 2011. Trump has led consistently for more than three months. In the last six months of 2011, Romney led for only a week or two at a time.

Only the Freedom Caucus whackjobs would go anywhere near tRump. Unfortunately, on the Dem side, your preferred candidate has a decided edge over mine in this area.

So far the Republican establishment has sat by and watched this unfold. I think at some point they get involved and try to maneuver the race into a direction they'd like. The problem they have though, is that there is no establishment candidate who is even in the running in this race. They all suck.

that allowing the childish pricks to take over the entire government might well lead to the end of all life on the planet, so Trump would act insane, get the teaparty behind him then run 3rd party thus guaranteeing Hillary and Bill the WH.

The other is less complicated, Trump is doing this for fun but he does know a real president like Obama, not like W, does more work in one day than Trump has done in a lifetime and he has no intention of actually becoming president.

But perhaps he thinks he can just delegate a lot of the work.

Your first theory is interesting. It could have all started just before Trump started talking about Obama not being born in the US, thus establishing himself as just one of the right-wing loonies.

No matter who wins the Dem primary, that person will be a far superior president than any one of the Republican candidates.

Not a chance that the RNC will let him have the nomination.

They will change the rules to disqualify or outright beat him.

Then the establishment Republicans scared their base to choose the 'safe' candidate.

It'll happen again.

He will run third party, thus ensuring a Clinton win.

So they're in a bit of a bind - which is what Trump planned on when he made those threats.

I think it's time to admit he has a chance though. Now, the problem for those who like Trump is how to keep him in when he decides he has had enough fun.

And I think that they could form a coalition with the angry sputtering screwball wing and the absolutely fucking bonkers wing of the Republican Party and out vote the utterly batnuts wing that The Donald represents.

Though I see much of the party coalescing around Rubio. Carson can't win back those who were dismayed at his terrible interview performances, Cruz only has marginal appeal and is unacceptable to the majority that wants to win. Basically ditto that for the rest of the field. Fiorina might have appeal as a VP, but she won't be the Presidential candidate.

Jeb! would be our party's dream opponent, out of those that have a shot at being nominated. And I think much of the Republican party is coming to see that clearly.

Clear out all of the failures who can't break above 3-5%, and then see where things go. He may very well be the nominee, but with what, still 16 people running, there's just too much clutter bouncing around.

"Mainstream" Republicans are now talking about it as almost inevitable. I heard one of them - forget who - say that if this had been another candidate, Jeb for example, they would be assumed to have the nomination locked up.

Republican voters are tired of establishment Republicans. He has great charisma and he tells them what they want to hear. The Democratic nominee is going to have to save the world.
