(15,707 posts)I kind of feel sorry for the R's. They used to be a decent party with some good ideas back around Eisenhower's time and the Rockefeller's time. They are just the party of stupid. With the D's, you will get a smart intelligent person, usually an empathetic person and one who can change their mind if you can make the case for the change. Each D will have their strength and their weakness. And that is where the voters come in to decide which set of qualities they want to represent them.

(8,685 posts)We have a cure for at least some of their issues:
"Using transcranial magnets, the researchers were able target and temporarily shut down the region. Subjects were asked questions about death and to rate a negative essay about the United States they were told was written by an immigrant. The result of the magnetic destimulation of the area of the brain in question resulted in less belief in religion and greater acceptance of immigrants."

(41,692 posts)#1. The Republicans believe in the minimum wage the more the minimum, the better.
#2. Richard Nixon is a no good, lying bastard. He can lie out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, and if he ever caught himself telling the truth, hed lie just to keep his hand in.
#3. A bureaucrat is a Democrat who holds some office that a Republican wants.
#4. Republicans dont like people who talk about depressions. You can hardly blame them for that. You remember the old saying: Dont talk about rope in the house where somebody has been hanged.
#5. It's an old political trick: "If you can't convince 'em, confuse 'em." But this time it won't work.
#6. A leader in the Democratic Party is a boss, in the Republican Party he is a leader.
#7. "Carry the battle to them, don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don't ever apologize for anything."
#8. "When a fellow tells me he's bipartisan, I know he's going to vote against me."
#9. "Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire the Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it."
#10. The Republicans
will try to make people believe that everything the Government has done for the country is socialism. They will go to the people and say: "Did you see that social security check you received the other dayyou thought that was good for you, didn't you? That's just too bad! That's nothing in the world but socialism. Did you see that new flood control dam the Government is building over there for the protection of your property? Sorrythat's awful socialism! That new hospital that they are building is socialism. Price supports, more socialism for the farmers! Minimum wage laws? Socialism for labor! Socialism is bad for you, my friend. Everybody knows that. And here you are, with your new car, and your home, and better opportunities for the kids, and a television setyou are just surrounded by socialism! Now the Republicans say, That's a terrible thing, my friend, and the only way out of this sinkhole of socialism is to vote for the Republican ticket."

(26,608 posts)Hillary (from the Blumenthal emails) was more hawkish on a regime change in Lybia than Obama. Blumenthal was mad that Obama was reluctant to go along with a regime change.
Given the disaster in Lybia, Obama was on the right tract. Gadaffi's ouster hasn't worked so well. Has it ever?
As far as this committee is concerned, it's all bullshit. What we need to address is America's disastrous meddling policy.
Hillary is thousands of times smarter than these GOP critters, but no one in the administration seems to be smart enough to end our presence in the Middle East.

(37,748 posts)I really thought that Gowdy, being a former prosecutor, would have the insight and foresight to avoid appearing so incredibly inept.
That, and the tete-a-tete between him and Cummings is going to pivot this into a show about him... something I think he really wanted to avoid (word is, he wants a federal judge's seat, and serious contenders for these positions rarely wear the big hat in the local circuses... which is precisely what Gowdy did today).
Clinton's very-clever though even-handed answers made Gowdy appear even more partisan that before. I'd guess that any new polling is going to show more and more people believing this really is nothing more than an episode of political kabuki fireside theater.

(2,100 posts)I was interested to see if my reading of the hearings was biased, like when each side claims their candidate "won" a debate. Doesn't look like it. Haven't checked in with Fox yet but other sites complain Hillary is doing so well because she's so practiced at lying, that Gowdy is incompetent, why can't Republicans ever show some spine, etc. It's actually pretty delicious out there.
