?w=863University of Mississippi fraternity members smile in mugshots after brutal beating charges
The Daily Mississippian, the university's student newspaper, reported on Wednesday that the five Pi Kappa Alpha members have been arrested and charged in the Oct. 6 assault of Sigma Pi member Jeremy Boyle at that fraternity's house.
Boyle heard a disturbance in the house's backyard and went outside to investigate when he was attacked, the Clarion-Ledger reported.
Boyle suffered a ruptured eardrum, lung contusion and concussion along with several broken teeth during the attack, according to the Mississippian.
"They descended upon him and beat him unmercifully. Beat him within an inch of his life," the student's grandfather Robert Boyle told an NBC affiliate.

(2,931 posts)it IS a legit means for scum like this to get together and create more scum. I'm not even limiting this to southern white frats. I lived with a good friend who was asian when I was an undergrad in california, he joined a frat one year and shit like this became common. Next year I bailed and found a new friend to live with

(2,931 posts)IMO they join frats with certain reputations because they want to join in.

Those are 5 frat guys who wanted to join in on the "fun" that the frat advertised to them.. Why do you keep saying the same thing? I get it.

We are talking the same thing I guess.

I'm pretty sure we can all look forward to these affluenza-suffering frat boys expressing some deeply rehearsed remorse once they're finally in front of a judge. At this point I expect them to get nothing worse than community service, probation, and maybe a stern talking to from the judge. Maybe this judge will surprise me.

(50,236 posts)You, on the other hand, seem obsessed by it. There is consensual sex among people of the same sex in and out of prison. That isn't rape. Get a grip.

(53,947 posts)Either that, or you were suggesting they were either all gay now (but of course you weren't) or that they would turn gay as a result of their incarceration (but obviously you weren't saying that, either).
You made a trite rape joke. You could at least be honest about it and try not to trivialize sexual assault in the future.
Vinca
(50,236 posts)Stop seeing things that aren't there. My pun was meant to be about the prospect of incarceration and nothing more. I do not trivialize sexual assault. I did not make a rape joke. You owe me an apology.

(36,437 posts)Your interlocutor should be ashamed. DU has been much better lately, with juries fully willing to remove prison rape jokes, even when they are cowardly dodges and heh-heh insinuations like this one.

(50,236 posts)I was finding it kind of amusing the grinning guys would be facing years in prison and figured they wouldn't be grinning quite as giddily when they realized the people available behind bars. But flog away if it makes you feel better. There is no room for humor when the satirically-challenged come on board.

(36,437 posts)You thought their prison "dates" would be funny? Like that makes any sense at all. You went for a prison rape joke and it failed miserably. Hopefully, you'll know that that type of shit does not fly here, next time you feel inclined to discuss "dates."
Honestly, do you think anyone believes your ridiculous denials?

(50,236 posts)If I had meant "rape," I would have said "rape." I'm not afraid of the word. The faux outrage pile on is, pure and simple, libelous. It's never happened to me before, but I've seen it happen to many others on this site. That's why, with some regularity, the "Goodbye DU" posts appear. Hate to disappoint, but I'm staying.

(50,236 posts)I am not a person who would joke about rape - and I didn't. In fact, I'm a person who used to work with rape victims. Sometimes the PC police on this site read more into a post than is there and this is one of those times.

(65,616 posts)I mean, I understand that frats are where stupid people go to hook up...but the beating makes no sense. They were waiting for a fellow frat brother to come outside...so they could beat him to death? A prank? Beating someone to death? One of their own?
What kind of frat is that?
Goodluck boys...I don't think prison is going to be a very nice place.

(16,834 posts)survived the attack. I hope he bankrupts the other guys' fraternity. Those are some sick, terrible people. They all need to do hard time. I think that's the only way they'll learn from this experience. Senseless, violent crime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. People who do things like this represent the worst characteristics that humanity has to offer.

(44,397 posts)le Miss spokesman Danny Blanton said that the five students told investigators that they went to the Sigma Pi fraternity house around 4 a.m. on Oct. 6 to try to steal a donkey statue kept by the Sigma Pi chapter.
Pi Kappa Alpha member James Declan Basile was accompanied by four pledges Tucker Cole Steil, Austin Rice, Christian Guy and Kyle Hughes. University police say Steil and Basile assaulted Boyle, a junior accounting major from Pennsylvania. It's not clear exactly how the alleged assault unfolded.
Boyle suffered a concussion, several broken teeth, a ruptured eardrum and had a bruised lung, the Daily Mississippian (http://bit.ly/1PEmIsP) reported. He was treated at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford and released.
Steil was arrested Oct. 16 on felony assault charges. He posted $10,000 bail and was released Monday from the Lafayette County jail, the Oxford Eagle (http://bit.ly/1W7r2Qb) reported.
Basile was charged with misdemeanor assault, hazing and theft. Rice, Christian and Hughes were charged with misdemeanor theft.
