So, Paul Ryan is getting a $49,500.00 a year raise

and he still plans to fly home to Wisconsin every week? That seems to be an issue for me.

He claims that he needs to spend time with his family.. Why not have his family come to DC (or near by). His kids are still young, and could surely enjoy the experience of DC..

The money spent on travel and his increase would surely go a long way towards a nice lifestyle for the family.

Speaker of the house is a job that requires a lot of time..and he seems to not be willing to put in the time..

That said, I don't begrudge him his rides home -- I didn't begrudge Pelosi, either. Those bastards on the Hill only work three days a week, anyway. I really think we should cut all their salaries by 2/5th, and give them, every week that they are working in DC and not enjoying "recess," non-refundable round trip coach tickets home as part of their pay packets.

He is, first and foremost, a representative of his constituency. His consitutents have a right to his presence in the district on a regular basis--just like any other rep.

What I found disgusting was assholes like Santorum, moving his kids to McLean in a McMansion, calling a shitbox, empty house his PA "domicile," and then charging the government of PA tens of thousands of dollars to home school via computer his noxious little children.

I agree with your post. I have no issue with any representative going home every weekend, and I certainly can understand why legislators wouldn't want to bring their families to the DC area to live.

Anything the taxpayers pay for is not to be taken seriously.

How long will it be before they shut down the govt again?

I would turn it down for that alone. I would need double that at least. It ain't worth it otherwise.
