On balance, are we better for all the video suveillance in place?

Bad guys get caught as a result of a video.

Some of those bad guys are cops.

Some of the bad guys are just plain bad guys.

I'm not sure I canname an incident where an innocent stander by was harmed by a surveillance video.

Most the time those cameras aren't even being watched. I don't know the percent of time. But, everywhere I have worked they have security cameras. One place not to be named usually did have someone watching the monitors, however there were at least 10 monitors and only 2 to watch them sometimes they would have 3 or 4 sometimes just one person. The point being they can't be watching every minute on every monitor. So, they are looking for behaviors if they see someone acting like a shoplifter they will focus on that person and not be watching the other 9 monitors. Another place they only look at the tape after an incident. So, no most the time people aren't actually being watched, the tape however can be used at a later time to help with convicting shoplifters or people who do worse.
