Two Omaha police officers will receive internal discipline and remedial training because they violated a policy while they were checking the well-being of 22-year-old Destacia Straughn earlier this month, Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said Wednesday.
Just hours after the officers left Straughns home, she and her 2-year-old daughter, Kenacia, were killed. Three of her friends also were shot and injured: Kachelle Roby, 22, Larrion Williams, 21, and Jamie Latner, 18.
Straughns boyfriend, Dontevous Loyd, whom the officers had spoken to and removed from the area during the check well-being call, soon was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and nine other felonies.
The statement from the police chief did not say what policy the officers violated, and it did not name the officers.
