Is there a way to filter out all Hillary and Bernie posts? I'd like to read about the important

things going on in the world without having to wade through the infighting and muck. If there is, please let me know since I don't actually want to stop coming to DU. Thanks.

1. You can block the groups and auto-trash their names.

Not sure if that will totally eliminate all references, but it should help.

16. Yes, I was dismayed to learn this some time ago.

The trash functions don't affect what you see on the front page.

Ergo, the best advice is to access DU by GD or the Lounge or another reasonably safe space, and never ever EVER go to the Home Page.

(I don't always follow my own advice. Now that I've made everyday DU-browsing safe, I occasionally miss the spectacle. )

2. I am repulsed by the candidate trashing threads
Fri Jan 1, 2016, 06:37 PM

We have three good, qualified candidates vying for the right to represent the Democratic party. I swear that every time I see a thread or comment thrashing one of those candidates it has the opposite effect on me. I am less likely to vote and support a candidate who idly stands by while his or her supporters vilify their opposition.

14. We hold Trump accountable for the behavior of his supporters
Fri Jan 1, 2016, 08:31 PM

Supporters of Trump have said and done horrendous things in his name and he has been repeatedly called out here for fueling those fires. We all feel he is partially responsible for the behavior of his most vociferous fans because the actions of large segments of a candidates supporters really do reflect the values of their leader. I do not expect our Democratic candidates to participate here at DU, but if they are running a competent campaign they will have staffers monitoring the main political sites, understand the type of chatter being inspired and swiftly shut down those who grossly misrepresent their candidate's ideas and ideals.

Leaders figure out how to bring people together and mobilize them towards a common purpose. If that purpose is to fling poo at their opponents or towards ideas they disagree with, then they are not worthy to lead this country in my estimation. The collective voice of a candidate's supporters do indeed speak for their candidate.

We're individuals, not Eloi. Recommend perhaps canceling your voter registration and taking up flower arranging. Fake flowers (no bugs, no molds, no diseases, no personalities).

5. Just stay out of GD: Primaries

That's what I do.

I don't see any Hillary or Bernie threads except for yours in GD...

10. I did not realize I could trash the GD Primaries. For some reason it had totally escaped me. Or I

had forgotten or something. Now that those and Hillary and Bernie and O'Malley groups are trashed, I'm back to having the DU that I love. Thanks to those who pointed out to me how easy it was.

and it occurs to me that I don't seem to use DU like most people - I just navigate around the forums and groups I want to see from the sidebar and avoid the Latest and Greatest pages, so I rarely even see the thread headlines for Primaries or the candidate groups.

I often forget that many DUers navigate from those pages.

6. I've trashed the entire GD:P forum, it's such a relief!

I highly recommend it. You'll still see threads from that forum on the "Greatest" page and the Home page, but they're non-existent on the "Latest" page -Yay!

I also have my preferences set to see only posts from the "Main" forums, so all the Groups are invisible as well - which includes the candidate groups. Otherwise, you can trash each candidate group individually, as someone else already pointed out.

There are plenty of ways to customize your experience of DU, take advantage of them. If you need help figuring out how to do any of these things, just ask!

7. I agree with everything posted in this thread, however, even though I won't read GD-P

Those same threads continuously dominate the "Trending" and "Greatest" sections.
If the goal of TPTB is to make DU unreadable, you are almost to that point

8. Don't go to GDP ....
Fri Jan 1, 2016, 07:21 PM
Jan 2016

I rarely ever venture into that mess .... the few times I have , I have deeply regretted it.

We have great candidates ... but you would never know it if you read GDP.

Stay out of that mess and enjoy DU (oh, also stay out of the specific candidate groups)
