(9,951 posts)If you want to be taken seriously, then post those links of any of us firearm owners who are laughing at Pres. Obama's emotional presser today.
I'll be waiting, but I suspect I'll be waiting a loooooooooooooong time, because what you're claiming is a flat out lie.

Here's a good analysis of some of the most common such claims, and of course a thorough debunking: http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/newtown.asp

(22,666 posts)I disagree w/ him on a few things (TPP and supporting cuts to Soc Security for instance) but overall, he's been a damn decent (in every sense of the word) President. i believe history will be very kind to him and his legacy will be a shining one, in spite of all the opposition.

(16,646 posts)Look, I can be as critical as anyone of this president. And I am not really one who thinks he will go down as anything close to "the best" once we get more than 20 year out. However, one thing that may stand out for a long time is the almost total lack of any "scandal" within his administration. Even the Bengazi thing has never really produced a moment of real scandal. There are 15 "departments" and innumerable "under secretaries" not to mention another 7 "cabinet level officials" (not including the VP) and yet no real scandal. One or two folks who had personal behavior issues (i.e. Petraus) but no "special prosecutor" kinda stuff. That is more difficult to accomplish in this day and age than one can imagine. You have to go back to Carter before you can get anything close to that kind of record.

Bush ridiculed death row inmate Karla Faye Tucker, whining in mock exaggeration in an interview that Tucker begged, ''Please don't kill me.'' Bush, who has made his Christianity part of his resume, mocked Tucker even though she said she had found Christ.
I'd rather have a President who has feelings.

(73,536 posts)In a sense, just as a Trump or Cruz give voice to the most hateful, today President Obama spoke for the sane and compassionate people of this land.
Thank you for this!

(13,869 posts)Everyone of course has an unquestioned right to have their own political beliefs, but the people who won't accept that this is a good man who is trying his best for his country, frankly I have trouble not despising them.

(531 posts)Given that his hands have been tied by a sub-human Republican congress, for so much of his presidency.
It's moments like these that remind us of his towering humanity. We've been so lucky to have him represent us all.
He stands alongside James Earl Carter, in my humble estimation.

(9,314 posts)He wasn't all that excited to run for a second term after what he had encountered, but he knew if he did not, he risked the Republicans coming in and undoing everything he had worked so hard to accomplish. So he did take a second term, but the cumulative stress of what he has endured would be enough to take down an army.
I voted for him twice and I do believe he will ultimately be ranked as one of our best Presidents. He is remarkable. That is not to say I have agreed with everything he has done, but basically he did what he campaigned on: tried to be the President for both the red states and the blue states -- the United States. In that vein, he has taken conservative positions of some issues, but on social issues he has been outstanding. I believe his and Michelle Obama are genuinely dedicated to improving the lives of our soldiers and their families.
A very close friend of mine who had never voted in his life found Obama so inspiring he actually registered to vote and cast his very first ballot for President Obama. Later in life, his position put him in a spot to be physically close to the President one day, who shook his hand and said a couple of words. My friend just could not get over how much Obama has aged since he has been in office. When one sees him personally, it is glaring.
Hopefully, when he does leave office he will have some quality time to recover from what he has been through these last years. Perhaps even have some happy days!
