He was sacked because he wanted a war with China which Americans had no stomach for.

Infantry in WWI - and had little use for Generals - or anyone else - who strutted around like little emperors.
MacArthur had a problem accepting limitations. That's why he was sacked.

(13,868 posts)He was visiting soldiers in a hospital and asked what was wrong with one who was huddled in a corner. He was told he had had a nervous breakdown, then called "shell shock" but now PTSD.
Patton went bullshit, saying he was a disgrace to the wounded soldiers, slapped him and told him to get back to his unit. The outrage ended up with him being disciplined and was basically the end of his career.
