Armed Oregon Group Leader Meets With Sheriff, Still Won’t Leave Wildlife Refuge

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2016/01/08/armed_oregon_protesters_meet_with_sheriff.html

Good news: The presumed leader of the armed wingnut group occupying a wildlife refuge in Oregon met with the local county sheriff.

The bad news: The leader in question, Ammon Bundy, rejected the sheriff's offer of "safe passage out of the state" and will not leave the refuge. From Reuters:

"We plan on staying," Bundy told reporters following a meeting. "I'm not afraid to go out of state. I don't need an escort."The sheriff's office later said in a tweet that [Harney County Sheriff David] Ward had plans to meet with Bundy again on Friday.

Friday is the seventh day of the occupation, which seems to have taken on a sort of surreal stasis; Reuters says some of the armed men on the refuge have left it for trips into nearby Burns, Oregon, without being stopped by authorities, and the dozen or so members of the media are well outnumbered by the journalists covering them. "News of the meeting" between Bundy and Ward, the Guardian writes, "sent reporters stationed at the refuge scrambling to attend, a handful speeding down the road and dozens eventually tripping over each other and falling on the icy, snow-covered ground to get Bundy’s reaction."

I don't quite understand why these assholes are allowed to wander freely on and off their seized buildings re-supplying themselves. It seems that the authorities ought to not allow anyone back onto the site and that they ought to arrest anyone coming from the site. I believe a siege is on order.

Sheriff Ward seems to have done everything in his power to end this w/o violence. I still don't advocate an assault, but it's time to cut them off and wait them out. No grid electricity, no contact except with a law-enforcement negotiator, no resupply. Anyone climbing that tower with a weapon gets shot. Etc...

They want a confrontation, because a confrontation brings more publicity - don't ever give terrorists what they want. Cut the power and let them freeze their asses off

As soon as the press gets tired of covering these idiots, they will pack up and go home.

Then law enforcement can arrest each and everyone of them when they least expect it.

Why the hell are the authorities even offering "safe passage out of state". This sheriff should do his job and handcuff Bundy on the spot.
