No, I'm not Islamaphobic. Yes, I support taking refugees from Syria and Libya. Having said that, I believe that there should be mandatory "classes" in acculturation for immigrants from that region with a focus on preventing this shit.
German authorities have identified 31 people, including 18 asylum-seekers, as suspects in mob sex attacks and muggings in Cologne on New Year's Eve -- one of several such incidents in Europe.
In Cologne, where most of the attacks took place, a police spokesman confirmed Chief Wolfgang Albers was fired Friday. Albers' dismissal comes amid criticism of his department's handling of the violence.
One victim of the Cologne violence told CNN there were too few police on the streets to prevent attacks.
"We ran to the police. But we saw the police were so understaffed," the victim said. "They couldn't take care of us and we as women suffered the price."
Spiegel Online reported that groups of men prevented officers from reaching those crying out for help.

(38,958 posts)Committed these acts should be arrested, tried and given very significant sentences should they be proven guilty. I also believe that the process should be well covered in the media to let all know the gravity of the acts and the unacceptability of them.

(38,958 posts)This is why I suggested "significant sentences." It needs to be made painfully clear that this type of activity isn't acceptable.

(606 posts)Without even screening them first, (they are provisionally allowed in until it is proven they are not refugees). This is just crazy. Germany is a quarter the size of the US; how could they possibly manage this? And millions more are expected in 2016.

(89,244 posts)I said the culture probably allows them to get away with it where they come from . Not that it's ok and they don't know that it's wrong.
It's the girls who are more likely to be punished by restricting what they can do.

(58,724 posts)Do you really think that is the case?

(89,244 posts)I said the issue is not them not knowing it's wrong. But that they probably were able to get away with this type of behavior where they came from.
At worst they probably got a lecture while the girls they harassed had restrctions put in place of when they could go out or what they wear etc.
And that's why they need to be punished like anyone else.

(58,724 posts)It would be almost unheard of for single females to be walking around by themselves where they came from.

(89,244 posts)Also syria was not like saudi arabia in how they separated the sexes. Women didn't have to cover up either. I'm referring mostly to state . I'm individual families were much more strict.
And if a guy sexually harassed females . The solution would most likely be to prevent the females movement and make them cover up.

(25,704 posts)By and large they live in a tribal culture. The everyday people they live with are mostly kin. Groping kin would get you punished or hurt.
If they are not kin, the victims would have kin that would kill you. Ever notice why tribal cultures have blood fueds? Hatfield and McCoys? Closely related tribal societies have blood fueds.
They saw no consequences, since the authorities did nothing and the women have no kin.
Understand closely relates tribes, understand the mentality. The West is not tribal (mostly, I am due to my family).

(24,692 posts)The city braced on Saturday for a rally of the far-right Pegida movement, one of the groups that point to the assaults as proof that chancellor Angela Merkels liberal migrant policy is failing.
Police expect about 1,000 Pegida supporters and the local far-right group Pro NRW, as well as counter-demonstrators from the group Cologne against Right-wingers, local media said.
Shabani, the witness spoken to by the Guardian, said she had viewed the events from the cathedral steps, having gone to the city centre to experience her first German new year, eight months after arriving as a political asylum seeker from Iran. She said she had been astounded by the polices nonchalance. They seemed to just let it happen, she said. I watched as men fired large firecrackers horizontally into the crowd and they police just stood at the side of the square with their hands on their hips.
Of the 31 people identified, nine were Algerian, eight Moroccan, five Iranian, four Syrian and two German, plus an Iraqi, a Serb and a US citizen.

Give them a rifle and let them fight ISIS.

(115,659 posts)Confused, Mr. Kelifa volunteered to take part in a pioneering and, in some quarters, controversial program that seeks to prevent sexual and other violence by helping male immigrants from societies that are largely segregated or in which women show neither flesh nor public affection to adapt to more open European societies.
Fearful of stigmatizing migrants as potential rapists and playing into the hands of anti-immigrant politicians, most European countries have avoided addressing the question of whether men arriving from more conservative societies might get the wrong idea once they move to places where it can seem as if anything goes.
But, with more than a million asylum seekers arriving in Europe this year, an increasing number of politicians and also some migrant activists now favor offering coaching in European sexual norms and social codes.

"""The Mariel boatlift was a mass emigration of Cubans, who departed from Cuba's Mariel Harbor for the United States between April 15 and October 31, 1980. The event was precipitated by a sharp downturn in the Cuban economy, which led to internal tensions on the island and a bid by approximately 10,000 Cubans to gain asylum in the Peruvian embassy.
The Cuban government subsequently announced that anyone who wanted to leave could do so, and an exodus by boat started shortly afterward. The exodus was organized by Cuban-Americans with the agreement of Cuban president Fidel Castro. The exodus started to have negative political implications for U.S. president Jimmy Carter when it was discovered that a number of the refugees had been released from Cuban jails and mental health facilities. The Mariel boatlift was ended by mutual agreement between the two governments involved, in late October 1980. By that point, as many as 125,000 Cubans had made the journey to Florida.""""
