en. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told a Charles City, Iowa audience on Friday night that his Democratic presidential opponent Hillary Clinton deserved a spanking for how she handled the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, according to the Washington Post.
Accusing Clinton of lying about the cause of the incident, Cruz said, In my house, if my daughter Catherine, the five-year-old, says something she knows to be false, she gets a spanking. Well, in America, the voters have a way of administering a spanking.
The Texas senator was responding to a question from an audience member about who would be held accountable for the attack on a U.S. compound that left four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, dead.
Cruz implied Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time, should bear responsibility, accusing her and President Barack Obamas administration of deception, obstruction and cover up.

(8,879 posts)Second - who spanks daddy when he lies? I don't think I've ever witnessed an more skeevy, lying politician than Cruz. Maybe the spankings aren't quite working there pops.

(45,251 posts)of an adult hitting their offspring. I thank whatever powers that be for that. I had been spanked and threatened with physical violence a lot. So had the kids I'd grown up with and all my cousins. If I had not heard his explanation, I would have equated that mess with normal parenting.

(8,646 posts)he really shouldn't be punishing a child of that age for lying at all. Children at that age aren't able to distinguish between which lies are okay to tell (eg white lies about Grandma's 'wonderful Christmas present') and lies that are NOT okay (I didn't eat the icing off the cake for Grandma's birthday, honest). Punishing a child for something they aren't even sure about does real psychological damage. I feel so bad for his daughter.
When my kids were that age and lied, I showed them the consequences of their lie. For instance, if I KNEW they licked all the icing off Grandma's birthday cake, I didn't try to box them into admitting it or denying it, the punish them if they denied it. Why set them up for their own punishment and play mind games? Way to fuck up your kid (my parents did that..."WHO did this" was my mom's favorite thing to go on about...)......I would start, "Sweetie, I noticed you have icing on your face and there is no icing left on Grandma's birthday cake. I told you that you were not allowed to touch her cake until it was time to have cake for her birthday party. Now her cake is ruined and I will have to buy one at the store. This has really upset me, because I spent a lot of time baking this cake. It's Grandma's favorite. I wanted her to like her cake and I know she doesn't like the ones at the store as much. And the ones at the store cost money. I'm really angry! I don't want to buy one at the store and I trusted you to leave the cake alone!"
For her 'punishment' sometimes I got creative and sometimes not. Sometimes I'd let her pick her own punishment, ("You ate so much icing I'm thinking you shouldn't have any of Grandma's new cake. But that might make you feel left out at the party, so maybe instead you can not play any Wii games for a week. You decide which one you'd rather have." so she can decide. Sounds silly, but you'd be surprised at how sometimes my kids will pick a more severe punishment, or even come up with better ones (sounds weird, I know but I've seen it in action).
Anyhow, enough of my babbling...point is Cruz is such a moron he doesn't even know age appropriate behavior in his daughter, and then he hits her for it. Parent of the year. Typical conservative.
