Comments on NYT GOP split article better than article

You can read the NYT article in several places this morning...talking about how the GOP is split and how the GOP is worrying about a Trump or Cruz nomination. I found the article shallow and reading between the lines it somehow provides legitimacy to the 'insurgent' group of candidates...talking about them as though they were a sane, valid response to an angry electorate. The article seems more interested in the drama than a real evaluation of how candidates and parties actually would address issues with real policies...just like most media outlets these days.

BUT....take a look at the comments regarding the article...tons of well-reasoned comments that don't just come from a partisan angle but seem (to me) based in reality. Many would have been good additions to the article! A sample:

"To those Democrats who may feel gleeful at the prospect of a Republican circular firing squad, here is a cautionary note. Our politics better serve us when there is a healthy competition of ideas.

If the GOP implodes, we lose a counterweight to the Democratic Party. In the short run, such an implosion could be very good for the country as we expand Medicaid, address environmental issues, enact reasonable gun safety measures, address a crumbling infrastructure, attend to the plight of a stagnating middle class, address soaring college tuition costs, make legal voting easier, and appoint thoughtful judges.

In the long run, however, I'd prefer to have at least two parties with intelligent approaches to addressing all the issues cited above. Lately it seems we have but one major political party with an interest in science, an interest in our people, and an interest in governance at all.

So while it would serve the nation well for the Party of Obstruction to blow up, it would also be a good thing if a sane version of conservatism rose from the ashes, resembling neither the old faction that serves exclusively the interests of the fat-cats nor the ascendant faction that caters to anger & fear."
