Doctors must send ultrasound pics to North Carolina officials under ‘creepy’ new anti-abortion law

Doctors must send ultrasound images of women seeking abortions to state officials under a newly enacted law in North Carolina.

Anti-abortion activists say the law is intended to verify that doctors and health clinics are complying with state law, which prohibits abortions after 20 weeks with some exceptions for medical emergencies, reported the New York Times.

The law requires health care providers who perform abortions after the 16-week mark to send ultrasound images to North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services so officials can verify the “probable gestational age” of the fetus.

But critics say the law, which went into effect Jan. 1, serves no medical purpose and is instead intended “to shame women and intimidate the doctors that care for them.”

in HIPAA for "law enforcement purposes" - which is the argument NC will probably use when challenged. Also consider that the enforcement arm of HIPAA in each state is the department of health and human services; the very agency that doctors have to send the information to for 'verification' that they are not skirting the law. Welcome to Bagger World, where every fetus is sacred, every woman is an idiotic, immoral whore, no doctor is to be trusted, and every poor child a tax drain on good, God-fearing white heterosexual men. God, I hate the Republican party.

That's hilarious when you think about it.

Politicians don't trust doctors.

Every now and then I see surveys that want to know what is the least trusted profession. Usually
politicians are in the top five. Doctors and nurses are usually at the other end of the survey.

Ed: Here's a Gallup poll from Dec 2015; http://www.gallup.com/poll/1654/honesty-ethics-professions.aspx

The medical profession has the highest rating while politicians and lobbyists rate the lowest.

Its disgusting to suggest such thing. Also, I do not see how a non doctor (i.e politician) will be able to interpret the picture and determine the fetus "probable gestational age".
