A brokered convention would be a nightmare for the GOP. It would upend an already fractured party and it would marginalize key Republican constituencies. Under any plausible scenario, a brokered convention would pit the establishment wing of the party against practically everyone else and thats exactly what the GOP needs to avoid.
Well, if youre a Republican, Karl Rove has some bad news.
The Republican operative wrote in the Wall Street Journal last week that The GOP will hold its first multiballot convention since 1948. Delegates will be fractured with many legally bound, for at least one ballot, to support the winner of their state or district and at least two ballots will be required. But the candidate with the most delegates going in will win.
A brokered convention was already a distinct possibility: The GOP has the largest field of contenders in history; the establishment has yet to coalesce around a candidate; and the so-called outsider candidates (Trump, Cruz, and Carson) have dominated the race for the last several months. And there are numerous candidates who have the money and the organizational prowess to continue running well past Iowa.

Our only problem is that we have some extremists of our own who are not content to just let Republicans implode.

Maybe have various hyper-fundies demanding that Cruz be the nominee. Maybe have Jeb so fearful of confronting the situation that he locks himself in his hotel bathroom and refuses to come out.
On the convention floor, set up the Ask Linda Tripp kiosk, where delegates can go for counsel and insight on their various romantic pursuits. Linda's been waiting for the right time to re-enter the community. Her hour has come 'round at last. Buy a new dress, Linda. No, not a blue one.
A half-dozen armed "militias" would be a tasty addition to the mix as well, saying all kinds of absolutely insane things on local media.
Perhaps Michelle Bachmann will self-immolate outside the convention hall.
I'm looking forward to it already.
