Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush sat down with the influential Des Moines Register Editorial Board today, discussing a plethora of topics including the shootings of unarmed African Americans by police officers.
Bush was asked if he sees a role for the federal government in investigating such cases. He expressed support for the idea if there was "overt discrimination" by the officers.
"Putting aside a police officer shooting a black man, most of the crimes are black on black in the communities. Most by far," he said. "The police shooting of unarmed black males, which is what the conversation is about as I understand, it is very small."
Bush added that investigations from the Justice Department can deepen the mistrust between law enforcement and community residents.

(note: I don't find anything wrong with any of these shootings, but then I don't find anything wrong with many of the other shootings that people are upset about. The common lesson to all these shootings is: comply with police instructions and don't try to attack or drive over them - or face the consequences).

(13,101 posts)1) He doesn't know the statistics on police shootings.
2) He doesn't care.
I think the answer is number 2.
I am so sick of the Bush's.
They are a 1 family wrecking crew.

(24,461 posts)He's GOT to be the most tone-deaf politician out there. There isn't even a close second, and yes I have heard of Mitt Romney and Carly Fiorina. You can tell Rove isn't mollycoddling him like he did his brother.

(13,257 posts)Straight out of the white supremacist movement's playbook.
I think the last time I read over at stormfront, they had a list of "arguments" to be used in conversations and on internet boards to "engage" potential converts to their cause by challenging those who support diversity and equality; or to confuse the shit out of good people who give others the "benefit of the doubt."
Some examples, "I'm not a white supremacist/racist, I'm just proud of my heritage." When talking about crime, as noted in the OP, always switch to "black-on-black" crime. Whenever any inequality is brought up, use Jews/women/blacks/hispanics/gays/etc. as the scapegoat for whatever problem a person has, i.e., "if only those (insert group) weren't allowed to vote/work/etc., your life would be so much better."
The underlying theme is to muddy the waters and create as much doubt as possible while appearing to be "polite," "rational, and "logical," while lying with carefully chosen "statistics," numbers and personal anecdata (anecdotes presented as factual information).
