Donald Trump Demands Iran Release Sailors Hours After They Were Already Released

by Tommy Christopher | 1:28 pm, January 14th, 2016

Amid all the media hype and conservative bedwetting over the 10 American sailors who were detained on Iran’s Farsi Island just hours before President Obama‘s State of the Union address, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump managed to top them all. In a demonstration of the sort of muscular foreign policy acumen that will Make America Great Again, Trump tweeted a stern demand for the sailors to be returned to United States custody right NOW!

Iran toys with U.S. days before we pay them, ridiculously, billions of dollars. Don’t release money. We want our hostages back NOW!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 13, 2016

I bet stupid NObama never thought of USING ALL CAPS, the feckless whelp.

Trump’s tweet must have scared the Iranians right into their Delorean, because as The Independent notes, the hostages were released several hours before Trump’s masterstroke:

Donald Trump called for the release of 10 US sailors who were detained in Iran – hours after they had already been released.

The sailors were allowed to leave Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf at 8.43am GMT – 3.43am Eastern Time – and were returned to US custody

Trump’s tweet, as you can see, was posted at 7 am.

I listened to a program on NPR recently that discussed Iran's internal political situation. The ruling party is being forced into a position of moderation in regards to it's dealings with the west because of the growing political clout of their huge younger generation. Their actions in this situation seem to reinforce that view.... our boats accidentally wandered into Iranian waters, the sailors were detained while the incident was investigated, the sailors and their boats were released a day later.

And he forgot he was supposed to offer them weapons in exchange for money to support overthrowing democracy in Latin America. Don't worry. He'll catch on when he's been president a few years.

That they chose to release the sailors even before The Donald said a thing. The man is simply amazingly.
