Foster children removed from home of Oregon militant, says he's now lost his 'main so

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/1/18/1471293/-Foster-children-removed-from-home-of-Oregon-militant-says-he-s-now-lost-his-main-source-of-income

Arizona rancher LaVoy Finicum told Oregon Public Broadcasting that his four current foster children have been removed while he's in Oregon:

Robert “LaVoy” Finicum and his wife Jeanette were foster care parents for troubled boys. Finicum estimates that over the past decade, more than 50 boys came through their ranch near Chino Valley, Arizona. The boys often landed there from mental hospitals, drug rehabs and group homes for emotionally distressed youth.

“My ranch has been a great tool for these boys,” Finicum said. “It has done a lot of good.”Finicum runs a cattle ranch in Arizona where he says he barely breaks even on the cattle and the loss of 50 extra foster ranch hands children is going to make it financially difficult on the Finicums:

“That was my main source of income,” Finicum said. “My ranch, well, the cows just cover the costs of the ranch. If this means rice and beans for the next few years, so be it. We’re going to stay the course.”

Others point out that the reason may be much simpler:

“(H)aving one parent away from the home for a significant period of time committing a number of high profile federal crimes would seem like at least a plausible reason to remove the children,” Josh Marshall wrote for the Talking Points Memo Editor’s Blog. “This doesn't seem to occur to Finicum.”

I am involved with several people who are blind or low vision and they HATE Goodwill. "Well at least they have a job" says Goodwill while using their special exception to pay $.01 an hour. The President or some higher up at Goodwill is blind which really pisses off the people I am in contact with.

Also, I found this PDF of foster care allowances (from 2009) and they get anywhere between $20.31 - 38.38 per day, per child.

That totals, monthly, if I did my math right (and understand the chart correctly), to 30,465.00 - 57,570.00 for all 50 children. $365,580-$690,840 annually which is on top of whatever he considers breaking even.

Harboring foster children isn't what most people think it is. It usually isn't the same as adopting, where you are in for the long haul. Foster children are usually only placed with a host family for weeks or months at a time, and are moved on to more permanent situations when the opportunity arises.

This guy is an idiot, and I am NOT defending him in any way, but your numbers are quite a ways off.

no need to go in "guns a blazin", just quietly make their lives miserable.

just economically bankrupt them.

they are already morally and ethically bankrupt, so this would be the next step. lol
