Asking for a little help here: Protect the Apalachicola River for River Otters

https://online.nwf.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=2212

The Apalachicola River is home to river otters and is one of the most diverse river systems in North America, but this ecosystem is being pushed to the brink of collapse by the mismanagement of upstream dams by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The Army Corps is now considering another flawed river management plan that will withhold even more water from the water-starved river—jeopardizing river otters’ food sources like fish and crayfish.

Right now, we must tell the Army Corps to drop this ill-conceived and disastrous plan and develop a sound plan that will protect fish and wildlife.

Take Action! Urge the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to keep water in the Apalachicola River for fish and wildlife.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone here cares, please use the link above. Basically, one of the most diverse and environmentally important rivers and bay is in jeopardy because of water demands from Atlanta and farmers.

I don't do this often, but this really is a great wildlife area that will be decimated.

The Corp just wants more and bigger dams. If we didn't have a Republican governor, he might help so it's up to us to make a lot of noise.

The area nearnthe Woodruff Dam is officially classified as piedmont. Archie Carr relates how folks used to catch sturgeon on the river: in a large boat, someone would hook the fish while the other fishers rigged a wash tub with a truck innertube around it. The guy with the fish was cast adrift in the little donut to be pulled around while the other fishers continued on with their angling.

I should have been more clear--I grew up in the Panhandle, but live in Iowa now.

Disruption of the flow has had an imact on shellfish harvesting in the past few years. Those who are left who still make their living from it can't take much more of a diminished supply.

The corp is going to kill off the entire bay at this rate.
