It must be very strange to be so paranoid you can't go to a meeting held by a bunch of moms without carrying a gun. There's a fine line between making a statement and looking like a fool.

and am a member of this organization's group in this state; we've been trying to grow it. We're having a panel discussion in one of the state's main cities in a few weeks and we're hoping that we don't have to deal with shit like this. Chances are, though, that we will, given that that city is full of yahoos like this. Sigh.

Nearly a dozen armed men showed up at a Moms Demand Action meeting this morning at a public library in Covington, Kentucky, to try and intimidate our members. Thanks to a state law passed in 2013, firearms can be openly carried in any city-owned facility in Kentucky — including libraries, parks, and the zoo: http://every.tw/1RMQ368

After 26 children and educators were murdered in the sanctity of an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, American mothers will never again be silent about our nation's gun violence crisis. And we certainly won't be bullied...

From the Mayo Clinic:

Agoraphobia (ag-uh-ruh-FOE-be-uh) is a type of anxiety disorder in which you fear and often avoid places or situations that might cause you to panic and make you feel trapped, helpless or embarrassed.

With agoraphobia, you fear an actual or anticipated situation, such as using public transportation, being in open or enclosed spaces, standing in line or being in a crowd.

This is a diagnosable and treatable condition. Often people with this syndrome self medicate with firearms to protect themselves from imaginary dangers.

We must offer sympathy and caring concern for those who suffer from this disease of the mind and agree with the NRA that more money is needed for mental illness.

the display of a firearm as a protest statement, and have condemned such on several occasions, it appears, based on these pictures and those on facebook "nearly a dozen" appears to be two, maybe three guys.

One photo should the older woman speaking to the man in the gray sweatshirt. I would be interested in what they said to each other and the tone of the conversation.

the close up picture is of a Blackhawk Serpa level 2 holster. It combines friction and a mechanical lock to keep the gun in place. It is difficult for anyone not wearing the holster to remove the gun. The ergonomics are designed so only a hand coming from straight above can press the release and pull against the tension holding the gun at the same time.

I hate it...I hate it...I hate it... but I am seeing too many things that are making it harder to overcome. As the display of men carrying guns into meetings, the attitude of more and more people is now to buy now first time buyers. World Terrorism is going to get worse more that it will get better and it will definitely.

Texas gun law really wasn't all that gung hoe until the Libbys Cafateria mass murder in Killeen, TX.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luby's_shooting

""The Luby's shooting was a mass shooting that took place on October 16, 1991, at a restaurant in Killeen, Texas. The perpetrator, George Hennard, crashed his pickup truck through the front of a Luby's Cafeteria, and immediately shot and killed 23 people, and wounded 27 others before shooting and killing himself. It is the third-deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, behind only the Virginia Tech and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. It remains the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. that did not occur at a school.[2]

On October 16, 1991, 35-year-old George Jo Hennard, an unemployed[3] merchant mariner who was described by others as angry and withdrawn, with a dislike of women and minorities, drove his blue 1987 Ford Ranger pickup truck through the plate-glass front window of a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas.[2] Yelling, "All women of Killeen and Belton are vipers! This is what you've done to me and my family! This is what Bell County did to me...This is payback day!" Hennard opened fire on its patrons and staff with both a 9mm Glock 17 pistol and a 9mm Ruger P89 pistol.[4][5] He stalked, shot, and killed 23 people, ten of them with single shots to the head, and wounded another 27 before committing suicide.[2] Approximately 140 people were in the restaurant.

It was National Boss's Day and the restaurant was crowded.[6][7] At first, observers believed the crash was an accident, but the shooting started almost immediately.[1] The first victim was veterinarian Michael Griffith.[8] Another patron, Tommy Vaughn, threw himself through a rear window of the restaurant, sustaining injuries, but providing an escape route for himself and other customers.[1]

Hennard reloaded at least three times before fleeing to the bathroom after a brief shootout with police officers. During the shootout, Hennard was wounded by the police. The incident ended when he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.[2][7]
Possible motive

Numerous reports included various accounts of Hennard's hatred of women.[1][2][3] An ex-roommate said, "He hated blacks, Hispanics, gays. He said women were snakes" and "always had derogatory remarks about women, especially after fights with his mother."[2]

Survivors said Hennard passed over men to shoot women. Fourteen of the 23 people killed were women, as were many of the wounded. He called two women "bitch" before shooting them.

""Suzanna Gratia Hupp, DC (born September 28, 1959),[1] is a former Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives, who represented traditionally Democratic[citation needed] District 54 (Bell, Burnet, and Lampasas counties) for ten years from 1997–2007. After surviving the Luby's shooting in 1991, Hupp became a leading advocate of an individual's right to carry a concealed weapon. Hupp was elected to her first of five consecutive terms in 1996. She did not seek a sixth two-year term in 2006. She has also written a book called From Luby’s to the Legislature: One Woman’s Fight Against Gun Control, published by Privateer Publications, San Antonio, Texas.[2][3]""

... are you sure a guy with a visible firearm is OK?

I mean... do you read about the negligent discharges in theaters, etc? Do you read about the crazy road rage incidents?

I've been around weapons my whole life. I'm not afraid of guns. I am concerned about some the assholes packing them, though, and if I see a stranger with a gun, I'm looking at his hair (does he look like an off-duty cop?), his bearing, and the appropriateness of a firearm in the place (day care?). If he doesn't pass my smell test, I'm outta there.

It's my life... I get to be uncomfortable with a stranger with a visible weapon.

I generally think everyone gun or not is 'ok', unless they give me reason not to.

I mean... do you read about the negligent discharges in theaters, etc?

In a nation of 300 million, with 300 million guns, a negligent discharge is inevitable, mathematically, but they can be mitigated through education.

Do you read about the crazy road rage incidents?

I'm not too worried about roadrage and guns, seeing as roadragers already have the means to kill and/or do great bodily harm by virtue of being behind the wheel.

I've been around weapons my whole life. I'm not afraid of guns. I don't care if someone is an asshole, whether hes religious, or whether his politics lean left or right. The ONLY thing that concerns me when I see someone who has a gun, is how they behave with it.

It's my life... I get to be uncomfortable with a stranger with a visible weapon.

I don't think anyone said otherwise. I don't carry a gun, and I don't really desire to but people peaceably carrying guns openly or concealed really just doesn't bother me.
