It's a quote of Ted Cruz.

(50,168 posts)Christ. Ted just got the endorsement of a "pastor" (huckster) who preaches that Hitler was sent by God to take care of the Jews. And Ted bragged about it.

(23,812 posts)I am not a Christian. I think Jesus would be appalled by the things people do, claiming to be doing so in his name.
My husband and I saw that clip last night and were horrified. Cruz is evil incarnate. Talk about an anti-Christ.

(30,884 posts)"Christian first" is an old dog whistle. In 1960 Kennedy's election brought out the crazies who feared that he'd put the Pope ahead of the American people because Catholics weren't their brand of Christians.

(14,691 posts)and telling people not to vote for someone because of their religion - I was raised Catholic and the nun teaching my grade then told us to tell our parents not to vote for Nixon because "he's a Quaker and he won't defend the country."

(17,003 posts)Of course a country comes far behind one's religion.
All you have to do is think of the nature of religion and a universal creator. If you say you are a Christian or Muslim or anything based on a deity that created the universe and claim to put a country above your religion you must not be what you say you are.
The concern, however, is that only a Christian can say it without repercussions.

American is somewhere in the 20s. Ive never been one of those USA! USA! WERE NUMBER 1, WERE NUMBER 1!!! types. I dont like team sports either, though I am very proud of the USA Womens Soccer team.
ETA - and since I am an atheist, religion doesnt even enter into the conversation.

(5,141 posts)Funny as hell. One of them (Chance, who is my side-kick) hangs out very harmoniously with the pups but the other 2, particularly my Maine Coon, scare the living poop out of both of them - I think I saw her shaking down my Lab for his lunch money yesterday.

(50,566 posts)Well, cats do rule. It's the natural order of things.
One of mine is a Maine Coon (maybe mix? not sure; he's a shelter kitty) and he is a total badass. He runs the show and everybody falls in line.
dorkzilla
(5,141 posts)But she is very obviously a Maine Coon, and she really hates every living creature except her hooman rescuer (although after 9 years she's just starting to accept hubby). I rescued her from a very abusive situation, replete with physical abuse and starvation, so she acts pretty feral. Maine Coone's are usually exceedingly friendly cats but they're intelligent and sensitive and I think she was irreparably damaged by her kitten days. But I love her little furry self all the same.

(12,802 posts)I don't think Ted Cruz will win the GOP nomination and has even less chance to win the White House. However, in a more sane world a politician of his stripes could never rise above county clerk.

(58,724 posts)A Roanoke, Texas artisan is the sculptor behind the popular "Star of David and Cross" artwork offered by Larry Huch Ministries. Patrick Neuwirth, owner of Iron Chinchilla, has provided a hand-crafted metal sculpture that combines the Star of David and the Cross, into a truly unique piece of art. Stunning, it is artwork that is a powerful witness to the Jewish/Christian Heritage of believers and a visual message of their support for Israel.

(82,383 posts)Cruz had best put being American first. The first law of the land in the United States is that you can practice any religion, but you can't use the government power to force it on others. Geez that is so basic. cruz is too stupid for the position he already has, let alone the Presidency.
