Seriously.
This is some insane bullshit.
Wash your damn hands after you go to the bathroom.

(16,230 posts)Would he insist on a seat near the bathroom and follow every employee that went in, both men and women, to make sure that they washed their hands?
That type of Libertarian society would be completely nonfunctional.
Whatever answer they come up with is something they do not think through as to what life would really be like.

And they'd personally inspect every factory that made every single thing they buy, for safety.
And they'd personally inspect every bridge, every road....
Because they're all Galtian uber-menschen...

God, these people are stupid.

(5,792 posts)It took 10 years to come to be law because of the Republican's and the corporations in ID who did not want to go to the trouble of making sure their employees washed their hands after going to the bathroom and had a sink in the food area where they washed their hands before handing food. I saw terrible improper handling of food when I first started my quest. Sneezing right on food while preparing it, handling money then putting their hands on food, sick with temps and handling food, large amount of the public coming down with disease because of it. It was disgusting.

(13,933 posts)Besides being 10 different other ways of stupid, are the big government regulators now going to ensure that every restaurant that opts out has a properly posted sign?
drm604
(16,230 posts)Currently you have to require employees to wash their hands. With Tillis' plan you have a regulation that says that you have to either require employees to wash their hands or you have to post a sign saying that you don't, and you have to have rules about the visibility of the sign, minimum type size, etc., and you'll need inspectors to assure that they're posting it correctly (or requiring hand washing).
Of course NO ONE would opt to use the sign instead so legislative time spent on changing the law would be a waste of taxpayer's money.

(1,241 posts)I would walk straight to the bathroom and if I didn't see the "wash your hands" sign. I leave. Some people NEED to be reminded usually because of their upbringing. It's an educational tool.

(21,506 posts)In this example he might be correct and the market indeed would take care of it in the end if a business decided to opt out of handwashing.
But it wouldn't happen immediately and there would certainly be many that got sick or died before the market took care of that business. Hell there are businesses that bleed money for years before ultimately going belly up. The people that would be harmed in the meantime don't count in the GOP
Flint is a perfect example of money meaning more than people to the GOP. Eventually the market (voters) will correct the complete fuckup they currently have for governor but it will be long after a whole lot of damage is already done.

(6,679 posts)This is about legal responsibility and lawsuits. Corporate America doesn't want to be responsible if they hire some disgusting slob who doesn't wash up and then touches your food. They want to be able to force you to pay for the food and if you get sick, stop you from suing them for damages.
FOLLOW THE MONEY.
