Too cool for fucking words. Launch. Land. Repeat. Bezos' people are Bad Ass. Leaps and bounds.

They're moving forward in Leaps and Bounds.

"The first rocket to fly above the Karman Line and then land vertically upon the earth... is now the first to have done it TWICE."

The same rocket. Twice.

There is hope for the future...

Any idea of how much this can lift? packman Jan 2016 #1
Not sure. Reusability with a turnaround time of 50 days though is way cool. cherokeeprogressive Jan 2016 #2

Sorry, Bezos is a psychopathic corporate monster I refuse to congratulate him. Odin2005 Jan 2016 #5
I seriously doubt he had a hand in this in any way other than to finance it. cherokeeprogressive Jan 2016 #7

Yep. And imagine how much faster it could happen if Bezos and Musk worked TOGETHER. nt cherokeeprogressive Jan 2016 #9

As far as lift capacity all I know is it carried a capsule that separated and returned separately, so I'd guess that configured differently it would easily have the capability to send a satellite into orbit.

I believe at the moment it's designed as a passenger carrier though.

New Shepard is sub-orbital only. Blue Origin is working on a next gen engine to go into an orbital system, but I haven't found any estimates on size or performance yet.

edit to add - Actually, didn't Rutan's SpaceShip One already do this?

Plus, I'd venture a guess that the concept and machinery involved in Bezos' launch/land/50 day turnaround/launch/land could be adapted to larger, payload carrying rockets.

Not to mention this article was written the day after Bezos was successful the first time. It seems kinda knee-jerky.

Maybe go back and read my OP title? "Bezos' people are Bad Ass." (emphasis mine)

Will make current fortunes look puny. Imagine the platinum group and gold so cheap we can use it for industrial purposes. Platinum returned to earth as giant foam spheres, floating at 60mph to the ground. Or space stations made with 3d printers using metals already in space.

We're on the verge of a revolution that will change the world forever.

Bezos's design for a re-landing attempt looks very stable. Can't wait for him to attempt it from a greater altitude.... like from orbit.
