...quiet little news item a couple of weeks ago and have been doing some research here and there since with the intention of maybe doing an OP.

This is truly something that is scary. After all, how do you cure mosquitoes of a disease so that they don't then infect humans? Perhaps we have a DUer who is versed in disease prevention and control. If so, would love to hear from them about this.

I've seen the pictures of the babies that caught this virus, and it's heartbreaking.

Be careful!

I think the CDC has guidelines that are helpful.

Rubella causes a non-serious rash and fever in adults and children. But if a woman is in her first trimester of pregnancy and catches this disease because she has never been immunized, her fetus can miscarry or be born deaf or be born blind, or even be born deaf and blind.

I don't know how serious Zika is in adults and children, but it is absolutely devastating for a fetus. Microcephaly results in lifelong mental retardation because the brain and the skull both fail to develop adequately. In some the small head is not terribly noticable, but in others it is quite visible.

It is mosquito-borne. We have mosquitoes in the US. We really do not want this here.
