(12,723 posts)Might I suggest you look into acquiring a sense of humor.
Because if you think you somehow have a message so vitally important that the President of the United States will be reading what you send then you really do need one.

(3,811 posts)It's easy to fire off an email. It takes some effort to actually write and send a letter.

(1,958 posts)The only way the president will ever become aware of your letter is if it is personal, heartfelt, and pertinent to. Topic that is currently an important issue to the administration and personally important to the president. It happens, but rarely.

(146,255 posts)Emails are simply tallied as to the opinion expressed. USPS letters are held at a distribution center and checked for hazards before being delivered to the White House. They are opened by White House staff members. Almost all are simply tallied as with emails. If a letter comes in that is especially interesting or important, it is passed up to a higher member of the staff. It is very rare that a President actually sees any mail from outside.
The volume of communications from citizens that comes to the White House is very large. It's unreasonable to expect that yours will be seen by President Obama. The odds are not with you.
However, I encourage you to write your letter and send it. But do spend a good deal of time on it. Proofread it very carefully, and format it as well as you possibly can. Be concise. Be eloquent. Be on topic and be relevant. Be excruciatingly polite and respectful. Don't rant. Those things will give you the best shot. If your letter is excellent, you stand a fair chance of a reply from someone on Obama's staff.
